Okay, they're olde tyme cocks, like ... poultry, but still!

Last weekend we went to the annual Cluck and Quack Club sale, and I found some CUTE STUFF!





This is not a chicken. This is 'Big', our barn cat. She showed up in our shed a few years ago, in the dead of winter with six little kittens. She was very growly and protective, and we had a heck of a time catching those kitties! Once it got to below minus 30C she decided that yeah, okay, you can catch me naow. She's been sweet and lovely ever since. And yes, she's fixed now, so no more bbs.



This is 'Willow', one of our house cats. The people who owned her moved out of their apt, and left her there. The landlord called our store to see if we could take her. We don't 'do' adult cats, because we just don't have the room, but hubby fell in love with her, so now she lives with us! She has the GRUMPIEST face, but is the sweetest, most laid back cat evah.



Finally, a cock, as promised! This little guy (and girl) are OMG so fuckin' small! They are barely six inches tall. When he crows, it sounds like he's a very heavy smoker. He is also FULL of attitude, so we named him Goliath.

Our bunnies 'Bun bun' and 'Sprinkles'. Believe it or not, they aren't related. Bun bun was dropped off by someone who didn't want her anymore and Sprinkles has some sort of weird eye-cateract-thing and was about to become snake food. (hee! I typed SNAPE by mistake!!)



I call this pair the ALFs, for obvious reasons. They're Silkie chickens, for those of you keeping score at home, but i'm quite sure they're part muppet.



Mom and babies! NOM NOM NOM. They make the cutest cheeping sounds!!



Not a cock, but a DRAKE! Okay, now I want to name them Drake and Josh! Hee! These guys are SO DAMN CUTE! And i didn't get a great pic of it, but they are the most amazing irridescent green!

My favorites are the Alfs, they're so cute! And Goliath and Jimmy are adorable.
I bet it takes quite a while every day to feed them all.
I'm curious, when they're all making their different animal noises, is it soothing or kind of nerve wracking?
Crackers, our Budgie, can make some of the most ear-splitting and un-naturally loud squawks I've ever heard! It gives me headaches sometimes. Crazy bird. LOL!

We have a Rooster that lives next door that about daily we wish bodily harm to...he's blind, so he has no concept of time and crows CONSTANTLY from about 4 am until about 8 or 9 pm...

Wants. Wants very much. Particularly the ducks - I miss ducks! And the bunnies! So cute and fluffy! Bunnies are illegal here - you have to go black market if you want one - I'm not brave enough.

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to keep miniature cows around here - I suspect not (I wouldn't do it to the poor cow anyhow)...but one day I will have land and own a cow!! (Jersey for preference)

Oh god I love the chickens best. The lil' cocks, and the Alfs! Snippet's MySpace pic is bound to be a hit. You should do a ICANHAZCHEEZBURGER pic of that one and submit it. I srsly envy you having all those animals, although I know you and how you'd take such good care of them, so I imagine they're a lot of work.

I know have a skunk that's stalking me. When sit out on my steps at night, it comes to sniff my shoes. The last time, I sat on the deck, thinking he'd stay away, but he came UP THE STEPS!. Then I got the bright idea that next time I'd get a picture...at night...with a flash. Yeah, I'm not the swiftest taco in the combo; fortunately I figured CAMERA FLASH = TOMAT0 JUICE BATH FOR JOAN.

So, are you still crying over your babies being gone all day? Haaaaa, thought not!

Poor Big, has only 3/4 of her tail, and is missing parts of her ears due to frostbite. The winter that we found her was SO COLD!

We tried to keep her in the house, but she was SO DESTRUCTIVE! I guess living outside, and being able to scratch as much/whater you like is a hard habit to break.

now, we give her a warm bed and a heatlamp, and she stays in our shed.

And yeah, Jimmy is pretteh and he knows it! :D

You haven't heard 'ear-splitting and unnaturally loud' until you've owned a peacock!

He basically screams HELP! at the top of his lungs, all damn day. Actually, he hasn't done it lately, I guess, because he's not looking to breed atm.

Also, most of our chickens walk around at will, and they love to come right below our bedroom window and crow at 6am. We like to leave our windows open for fresh air, but end up having to close them every morning!

As for feeding ... nah, it's not too bad. Winter is harder, because I have to schlep water in buckets, because the 'feed' freezes. It only takes about 20 min in the summer, and maybe 30 in the winter.

There's more involved, of course, because I have to buy the food and hay and stuff and bring it home, but that's only a few times per year. Honestly though, I LOVE feeding them. I thought i would get bored of it, but it hasn't happened yet.

Yes, we were given both peacocks (well, three actually, but one died) last winter. They were never 'on loan', the man just needed to 'cull' his flock a bit. Hubby just made them a brand new house, and it's lovely! And right opposite the chicken coop (where we had them previously and now have the new chickens) so they really enjoy watching the chickens and rabbits run around, but can't be aggressive to them.)

And yeah, silkies are hilarious. These two are the most chill that we have. Sometimes the roosters can be EVIL.

Blindness has nothing to do with your annoying neighbour. Our roosters also crow whenever the hell they feel like it. And god forbid we leave the lights on in the barn!

Lucky for us, we don't have any really close neighbours. Especially with a peacock. DEAR GOD THEY ARE LOUD!

Hey, I was thinking about getting a walaby(sp) at one point. People actually keep them as pets, but I've heard they can be pretty aggressive ..?

Well, we don't go away very often, but when we do, we hire a pet sitter. She doesn't generally work outside of the city, but we've used her for years, and she comes out twice a day to feed and water everyone, let the dogs out, water the plants, etc.

It's not cheap, but it's about the same price as putting two dogs in a kennel for a couple of weeks. (which is a pretty stressful thing for the dogs, if you ask me.)

We recc her to a lot of our clients, so she doesn't mind the extra mileage once in a while.

Aw! Skunks are so cute! I have a client that has a de-scented albino skunk! I'm tempted, but I've heard they're hell to house train, and pee all over the place. DO NOT WANT.

My babies being gone all day? When does this happen?
So far this month, they've had 11 days of school. They didn't start until the 9th, there was a 'professional development' day last week, and yesterday was off due to a new program called 'strong beginnings' where they see each child for one hour to assess where they are developmentally. They also have Monday off, for the same thing. That equals 13 school days TOTAL this month.

What the fucking fuck? I'm crying all right, but it's not because I miss them! grrrr

I'm not sure if they'd be aggressive or not - I know Kangaroos can be - but they're HUGE, and would definitely do some damage. They're pretty standard in petting zoos over here, and get fondled by tons of kids on a daily basis, so I'm thinking they wouldn't be too bad :-)

They are very cute but completely nocturnal. We've had them in the store before, and all they do is sleep all day. At to that that they have an 'interesting' smell, and they are not the pet for me.

My friend has one and she quite likes it, but ... meh.

I have enough caged indoor pets right now. A hamster, two snakes and three large cages of birds. I'd like something that can live outside and get along with the critters that we have now.
