Behold the Milky Wave!
Feb. 21st, 2010 11:57 amOh man, this poor cat has PROBLEMS!
To re-cap, for those of you who missed the first post: I found 'Milky Wave', in the COLD, by the side of the highway last week.
The vet did a Feline Lukemia test, which came up negative. Yay!
The shaved off his mats and burrs. Yay! And fixed him. Yay!
He has pretty severe frost-bite of the ears, feet, hocks and tail, and will proably be dropping body parts around my house over the next few weeks. Not yay.
He is deaf. Not a surprise, but not yay.
He has the runs. See above.
He has had two seizures in the last two days. Super not yay.
It seems quite painful for him to walk, although he does. He also makes a funny tap-tapping sound, since his feet are scabbing over. He is really sweet, and loves to be scratched and patted, and if we can get him over these seizures, I think he will make a lovely addition to our home. I'm hoping they are due to stress + infection + malnutrition, but we'll see. All white animals seem to often have extra medical issues.

His eyes are actually blue, not red, and although he looks like a mangy lab rat right now, he has the potential to be a very pretty kitty. Almost like the one that Dr. Evil owns! :D

I've warned the kids that he's not quite out of the woods yet. Infection and/or these seizures could still be his downfall. We're keeping him in a nice big cage, in the kitchen for now. We let him out lots, for love and pats, of course, but until his runs are cleared up, and until he's more healed, I think it will be better for him.
Thanks to everyone for all your well-wishes!

Sounds like he's in the best place he can be.
I've teared up looking at him.
I'm a sucker for a pet sob story. But then that's how we've ended up with our 6 critters.

Date: 2010-02-21 08:27 pm (UTC)We found an all white kitten with blue eyes in our backyard when we lived in Hawaii, and his head was stuck in a chain link fence. So we took him in, and he ended up being named Badness before we figured out that he was deaf! LOL Oh well, at least he couldn't hear us apparently casting aspersions on his behavior. *snort*

Date: 2010-03-10 08:19 pm (UTC)I usually look at scenarios like that as; Even if they die, at least it without suffering.
I would have put him down if he were positive for FeLuc, but lucky for us, he was negative.
He is doing better, but still in a lot of pain. It is surprising how long it takes for body parts to fall off! One of his ears is half off (and dangling), the end of his tail is as hard as a rock, but seems to have no plans on going anywhere soon, and his hocks are still very scabby and gross.
he's on meds for the seizures now, but they take a while to have an effect. *fingers crossed*

Date: 2010-04-24 06:43 pm (UTC)Side note: It is true about white animals having more medical issues. My sister has a white cat who has recently suffered her third recurrence of skin cancer; she's had her ears partially amputated because of it. But she's a fighter, thank goodness. She's made it 14 years so far, and I expect she's still got a few more years in her yet. :)
