The Vet wants to wait!!

I took him in this morning for the 'big' operation, and when I took him out of the kennel for Dr. Stogdale to take a look at him, he was happy, and active, and playing around like a kitten.

She was suprised and impressed that he was actually putting a bit of weight on that leg (after not doing so for 6 weeks) and also that he was attacking the door jam with great vigor.

His leg is certainly not out of the woods yet, but she said we should wait another week or two and see how it looks then. The leg is obviously painful and tender, but she said that if he were in GREAT pain, he wouldn't be playing around like that. It is likely that it won't heal on it's own, and then we'll be right back where we started, with the amputation, but why not give him a bit more time and see if he can keep that leg.

I will keep everybody updated, don't worry! And just so I'm completely transparent here, anyone who donated or purchased art, Paypal gives me 60 days from the time of payment to reverse it. If he DOESN'T need his leg removed, I will gladly refund your money to you. Just pm me.

Keep in mind that I already owe over $800 for what we've done so far, and even without the amputation, I'm sure there will be more costs for the boy. Thank you everyone for your wonderful well wishes. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if that's why he felt so good today. :D Also good news: he hasn't had a seizure for over 4 days now! That's a record!

Dr Stogdale. She's laughing because he is growling at her, and just took a swipe before I shot this.

Taken at home before we left. It was going to be the 'before' pic. Well, I guess it still might be.

I was trying to get a picture of his wound, but ended up getting quite the 'money shot' for those of you into neutered cat porn.

A better shot of the leg, taken at the vet's after she removed the torn stitches. I don't know if you can tell, but you can see BONE AND TENDONS in there. Very gross. He's on a super-de-duper antibiotic injection called Convenia. She sent me home with two syringes of it.

Thank you again for all the kind words and warm wishes. I will continue to keep you updated!

He's so cute! But man, that's an icky, icky wound!

I just made a donation, so keep it, bb, even if he doesn't need the amputation. My mom rescues cats, feeds strays (They have half a giant closet filled with cat food - wet and dry (they all, including her three, get a mix of both, and it's not the cheap stuff either)) and I know how all that gets expensive. I'm glad I could help out in a small way. :)

Aww Milky!! That wound looks terrible. I'm pretty good about seeing pictures of bloody, unpleasant things but that did make me cringe.

I am happy to hear he is doing well though. That would be AMAZING if he can keep the leg! I don't have very high hopes based on the fact the damn thing won't heal but...still!! Maybe he will be able to run around on it ^^

Anyways I got home late last night so I just now put in my first $20 via your paypal link. Even if somehow you don't need it for Milky, keep it, because I doubt this will be the last cat you rescue!

Yay, go Milky! That would be so great if he can keep his leg. If not, does he get a peg leg like a pirate?

ETA: I'm with everyone else, keep the donation. Kitty needs it with or without a leg!

Regardless of what happens, I still want the Dumbledore art, and I hope it helps with his bills. The price was more than fair and I hope the money you've collected helps to pay for this boy's medical bills. I'm glad to hear that he was frisky and playful at the vet and that the vet is optimistic that he might get to keep the leg.

And my gosh that looks painful.

If he doesn't need the operation, keep the money anyway - you never know, what with the injections and treatments and things... Hope he'll pull through anyway!

Oh hon, keep it. I am just paying it forward.

I'm so sorry I can't help, being broke myself, but it's good to hear that at least he's feeling a little better these days. That wound looks awful. Sending good vibes his way and keeping fingers crossed for his recovery.

I'm with everyone else, I don't need a refund either; keep it towards his 'retirement fund'.

I'm glad to hear Milky's doing better. And ditto what Droxy said. It would never even cross my mind to expect a refund.

I know how expensive vet bills are. Mia's vet bills over Christmas cost me $1500.

Good luck, hon! ♥

He's awfully cute...when I'm not looking at the wound, that is. LOL.
I'm really glad he's feeling so good today. I'm hoping he'll be able to keep his leg.
You're such a wonderful person to take such great care of him.
Hugs for both you and Milky.

Wound still looks pretty icky to me too. God, he's a big cat! And hey, that money was for him/you/any other part of the menagerie. I know you'll put it to good use.

It's good news that there's a chance he will keep the leg and great to hear that he is lively and strong :D

For me your fund raising is still valid whatever happens because there will be costs regardless and as you say he's already piling up a tab lol!

Poor kitty... It would be wonderful if you could use the donations not for amputation but for covering other expenses. Keep it, it's yours :)

I love love love how scruffy his fur is. He is so damn cute.

That is a really nasty wound though. Wowzas!!!!

Glad to hear there is a slight chance Milky might be able to keep the leg. As for any donations I've made, please keep them to help with medical costs current and future. I always feel like I want to adopt a stray, but honestly know it's not in me to keep it up. I rather help someone who has the fortitude to do as you are doing. (Keeping my lizard in a huge tank is work enough for me for now. ;)

And for the current auction, if you still want to do it. I'll gladly still pay up if my bid is still active when it closes.

Don't even worry about it. Even if you don't need it for the leg, you obvs have put ALOT of time and money into this kitty and will more then likely continue to for all the other abandoned animals you run into.

What a nasty wound, but wouldn't it be wonderful if they can save his leg, save him all the trauma of the surgery.

And please, no matter the outcome, keep my donation. Next week I hope to be able to send a little more.

Ooh it looks nasty (curses heaped upon those who left him out there), but very good news that he may be able to keep it - I have fingers and toes crossed for him - he looks like such a sweetie (aren't boy cats sooks).

As for the money - definitely keep it, I know you do good stuff with it, for Milky or one of your other animals. Your vet bills must be phenomenal generally! *hugs*

(Also - I'm starting a new post now with some of my 'work safe' art (all birdies!) - it actually never occured to me to put it up before :-))

I'll keep my fingers crossed for him, but either way, don't worry about a return. It's little enough, and you've still put a lot of care into him already. ((hugs)) ^_^

Best wishes! <3

Hey Tripper, I got your thank you note in the mail today. That is, my dad got it, because technically it's addressed to him, and he came to tell me because he was SO CONFUSED, he said it was the weirdest thing he'd ever gotten in the mail haha. And I said oh no there was this cat with frostbite that almost lost his leg... and he said oh so it was your generous donation? Haha. And he didn't even ask why I was giving money to someone in Canada :P Anyway I wasn't expecting a note, that was sweet. :) Hope Milky Wave continues to improve!
