Okay, nobody panic, problem solved. Thanks so much Clay and everyone else who chimed in!

I'm sure I"ll be bugging you all again before long. :D

*flaily keyboard smash*

How the FUCK do I fix my brushes in photoshop? *sob* I was mucking around, trying different things, and now my brushes don't work like they're supposed to! :(

Normally, when I have the brush opacity down, I can press hard and make a full diameter line, or I can press lightly, and draw a dark-ish line in the middle of the light stuff. I've tried to fix it via Pen Sensitivity in the brushes window, but it just lets me go darker/lighter with pressure, but doesn't let me change the diameter of the stroke with pressure. I've also tried mucking with diameter, but to no avail.

I swear to God this is fucking aging me. AND I DON'T NEED ANY MORE WRINKLES TYVM!

Oh, and please dumb down your answers as much as possible.

Woah... changing diameter? I didn't even know you could do that! Sorry I can't help you, but I hope someone knows how! I'd like to know about this too..

reset brushes to default and reload.

keep in mind you may be working faster than PS can handle.

The problem is that the pressure you're exerting on the pen isn't changing the width of the line you're drawing? Did this start happening randomly in the middle of a session or did you open up Photoshop and it was suddenly happening?

I would start by restarting Photoshop. Make sure your tablet is already plugged in and getting power and all that when you start Photoshop, too. If that doesn't work, then I would try restoring default settings, and if THAT doesn't work, then I would start to wonder if it wasn't the tablet drivers that are the problem.

Actually, yeah, what clayangel said.

Mine is attached to a fairly ancient computer and, on occasion, has a bit of a crash and stops registering pressure (so all my brushes look big and blunt like I'm using a mouse, not nice and pointy like with the pen). I restart the computer and it's fine again - on mine I think it's caused by a driver crashing.

I tried that. Infact, that's when it all went to hell. I followed Clay's advice about shutting it all off and re-starting, and now it's working again.

thanks though! Geez, I wish I'd thought of that before perusing through PS HELP and mucking around for an hour. *sigh*

Yes, your description of the problem was correct, and yes, your solution was correct too! YAY! I actually shut the whole laptop down (which I probably don't do enough). It did happen suddenly, but not mid-stroke. I was playing around with different brushes and stuff and then it wouldn't work anymore.

I wish I'd thought of that obvious answer before wasting an hour combing though the 'help' questions and mucking around in all the pre-sets. I DID try the restoring default thing, but I guess it just needed a short nap. ;)

THANKS HON!

yeah, the whole program was starting to lag, acutally, so it really should have occured to me to shut down. But I had been mucking around, playing with all sorts of settings, so I assumed it was something stupid that I'd done.

Thanks!

It's generally pre-set, but somehow changed on me. I just did the old school reboot thing and it fixed.
