House Art WIP
Jan. 17th, 2007 11:59 amI thought it might be fun to post a work in progress. I know that I'm endlessly fascinated how other people draw their stuff, so now, mighty flist, you shall be subjected to my artistic meanderings.
This is the first time I've drawn Hugh Laurie, but he has such a neat face and captivating eyes that I couldn't resist.
When I draw, I lightly sketch out the lines, then go with a soft paintbrush and fill in the shadow areas with graphite. To do this, I scribble a big, black square of paper with a 6b fat graphite pencil, then I go over it with the brush to pick up the graphite. Sort of like how you pick up eyeshadow and then apply it.
In this WIP#1 I've done all of that, and then, because I am impatient, I also drew in his eye. Sort of like eating desert before dinner, but hey, it's MY art, I can do whatever I want! I promised myself that I would only draw for 10 min (to do that eye) and of course, here I am, wasting more time, posting it on teh interweb.
I also realize that I"ve made his nose/face too long, so I drew I line where I think his nose should end, and I"ll bring his face up a few centimeters. I don't really do any precise measuring when I draw, I just sort of eyeball it, and generally, compare it to the subject's eye. Okay...if his eye is ------this long, then, his nose is two and a half eyes long, type of thing. And according to my scientific formulae, his nose is too long.
that will be the next WIP!
