Urrrg! It is endlessly frustrating that no matter how long I draw, I will constantly be cock-blocked by photoshop.
Now that the comic is done, I thought I'd stretch my art-chops on the weekly Woot! t-shirt derby. This is a site that takes submissions from the general public, and then the submissions are voted on (also by the general public) and anyone can win!
(winning involves a not huge amount of cash, plus a percentage of sales if your design is picked.)
Now, I don't enter thinking that I'll win. I HOPE I will, of course, but there are professional artists who enter, and they blow any and all of my stuff out of the water. Of course, sometimes it's the idea, or the simple designs that get in, so there's always a chance.
My problem is that I SUCK AT PHOTOSHOP. And all sorts of graphic design stuff that goes with it. The 'theme' this week is College, and I decided to do a simple little university crest, with the ribbon thingie at the bottom. Except ... to get that stuff even, it really shouldn't be hand drawn. So I looked for 'free' crests to use as a base, and found some, except they weren't the right shape/size/ etc, and whenever I tried to change them up, I would make mistakes, lose layers and generally make a mess of things.
So I ended up drawing it by hand. Which is ridiculous. It really should have taken me about an hour to do this design, but thanks to faffing around and screwing it up and then starting all over, it took about four. Even the halftones! PHotoshop is like math. If I don't use each function on a regular basis, I forget how to do it, and then have to look up how to do it all over again. *pulls out hair*
Anyhoo, here's my design. If you've ever bought a shirt from Woot!, then you can vote!

In a week, when the contest ends, I'll put this up on my Redbubble site for purchase.
