First question: I'm hosting a panel/roundtable at Lubricus, which is basically MSTing REALLY bad HP fic. Plz to be linking me to the absolutely, hilariously bad fic that you've read. We'll just be reading a paragraph or two from each, and not mentioning authors or anything.

Second Question: Okay, New Yorkers, I need your help! Please give me a good estimate on the address of Stark Tower. And I also need a bad estimate on what it would be. If you knew New York, but weren't that smart, where would you guess the address to be?

Thanks in advance!!

I know nothing about New York, but wikipedia says that in the movie, Stark Tower was built in place of the MetLife Building which is located at 200 Park Avenue at East 45th Street above Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

Hope that's helpful, good luck!

Bloopfish is correct. It's the Met Life (formerly the Pan Am) Building @ 44th street between Madison and 5th Madison and Park Ave - got a bit ahead of myself there on my mental walk) , (there are little streets there - Vanderbuilt on one side, and I forget the other) so if you're standing on 42nd street in front of Grand Central Station and you look up, it's right behind the terminal building. Here!

Okay, and it's just Vanderbilt on the Madison Ave side. Park Avenue splits around it, and it's actually kind of pretty, though not a place to want to drive during rush hour! Gah! You'd think I never worked down the block (on 44th!) and commuted through there for 2 years. Oy!

ps- As someone who knows nothing about NY I would also just guess that Stark Tower was in the general vicinity of Central Park, Times Square or Madison Avenue- because those are all places in New York right?? lol, apparently those wouldn't be bad guesses! MapQuest says that Central Park (which is the farthest away of those three) is less than a mile and a half away. Madison Ave is only one street over! So~ GO ME!

May I ask why you're looking for a bad estimate? I hope my guess was bad enough to be helpful. Honestly, you should never underestimate the the lack of geographical knowledge of the average American. You could probably make noises about the tower being in Huston and someone would agree.

You MUST go to WTF Fanfiction Here if you haven't already - there are some hilarious gems of bad, mad and crazy fanfic, including some Hagrid/Hegwid and excerpts like the following:

“[Voldemort] flew gracefully into the air, did a backflip mid-jump, and landed in his previous position straddling Draco, “or I could even do this!” he rammed his cock into Draco’s arse.”

Ahaha, Oh God! I'm Canadian, and lived in California for a year. I will NEVER underestimate the lack of TOTAL knowledge of the average American. (or Californian, anyway.)

I actually had someone ask me if I'd moved to L.A. in OUR summer, or YOURS?

HEMESPHERE MUCH?

And of course, people thought we lived in igloos, had zero technology and ate whale blubber. (which I totally did not correct them on.) Oh, and we all speak french. ;)

As for the 'why', I'm mentally working on a fic loosely based on the Avenger's soundtrack song by soundgarden. Basically, "What if all you understand, could fit into the center of your hand." Tony is hit by a Loki!spell and loses a full digit from his IQ. Kind of like the movie with Harrison Ford, where he's a rich, dickwad executive guy who suffers some sort of brain damage and has to start his life over.

Lol!

Wow that story sounds painful. That's just about worst nightmare territory for me, and I'm sure Tony would feel the same way. You really like to hit them where they'll hurt!

The premise of your fic sounds ENTIRELY fascinating. That's something I look forward to reading! I remember that Harrison Ford memory-loss film too... Regarding Henry! lol, blast from the past.

Am working on a link for you. Some time ago a friend was describing a Snarry mpreg in which Snape turns out to be a sexy Harley motorcycle driver, they move to America, and there's this "touching" scene with Snape driving a pickup truck and Harry's laying preggo in the cab while Snape sings "Someday Lady You'll Accompany Me" through the sliding back window.

I shit you not. Laughed for a solid 15 minutes.

If I didn't know new york at all, a bad guess on location would be SoHo or near south street seaport. The first is famous for its boutiques, and is mostly residential (also, high gay population), and the second is a major tourist area, near docks.

Huh. It honestly never occured to me that it would have an actual address. :D Thanks!

Regarding Henry! Yes! I couldn't remember what it was called! Yeah, after hearing the Soundgarden song a bazillion times, it just seemed like something that I needed to write. Yanno, along with my Cap_im big bang.

Please don't say I didn't warn you. When I said badfic, I meant BAD. How Severus Spends His Summer Hols

Oh god. It's TERRIBLE.

I almost signed up for cap_im BB but pussied out at the last minute. Marvel_bang only needed to be 10K, which was much less intimidating for me. Funny, since I'm already around 15K and not nearly finished!

I've lived in the NY Metro area my whole life, and I've still never been to the Statue of Liberty (been by it by boat/ferry, but haven't set foot on the island), Ellis Island, The Met, MOMA, or the Guggenheim. I'm a bad NYer. :-P

By the way, regarding asking for native NYers to give you bad guesses - it was really clear in the movie exactly where it was, and we'd pretty much all recognize it. In fact, it was kind of weird to walk out of the theater afterward and see the City undamaged! :-P

(Now, if you wanted us to guess where Stark Manor is, our best guess is 70th Street and Fifth Avenue - The Frick Museum.)

I meant the actual address. Like, if someone was ... mentally compromised, what they might guess. (like changing the 400 to a 40, or guessing by the side street, or saying it was right across from X restaurant or something like that.) I wasn't terribly clear in my question.

But I knew my NY peeps would help me out! Thanks!
