I love my hubby. He is funny, smart, cute and very sweet and thoughtful. He is a fantastic father, a considerate husband and a good son to his mother.

He also watches the SHITTIEST TELEVISION PROGRAMS EVER. OMG!
Now, I don't really feel like I have the right to complain (much) because I'm not technically watching. I'm sitting at the dining room table, on my laptop, drawing or surfing etc. Meanwhile he switches from shitty to boring to sports to dull and then back to shitty and boring and sports again.

Canadian Pickers (which is more annoying and boring even that American Pickers which is really saying something.)
Storage Wars -- any one will do. The old one, Texas, NY, doesn't matter. Kicker is, he's already SEEN most of them.
Pawn Stars. *flails* The people on this show make me want to kill myself, they are so ... irritating.
Basketball/hockey/football etc. Don't really care, but meh. Boring.
Antiques' Roadshow. Probably the best of the bunch, but really pretty boring, esp when you've seen half of them already.
Old, old OLD movies. I am going to assume that the job of EDITOR only came to be after the 70's were half over. Why is every black and white movie four hours long? And boring?

Each of these programs gets three to ten minutes of his attention, then the changes the channel for about about three minutes of various things on other channels, some boring some not. I preferr the boring ones, because it is torture to see a mere three minutes of something that is actually interesting.

I understand that channel surfing is a guy thing, and he's watching stupid, boring shows because he is using the mindless crap to just unwind after a hard day, but that doesn't stop me from curling my toes in frustration.

I love shows like Antique roadshow and storage wars (if I manage to catch it) mostly because I am interested in the stuff. The fake drama I can do with out. I guess roadshow is the best, because that's real people with real stuff. I dont bother watching sports.

Not every b/w film is 4 hours long and boring. =)

Suggest you offer the marvel comix stuff you love. There is some good stuff on netflix.

You are right. Not ALL black and white movies are four hours long and boring. Just the ones he watches. ;)

I must admit, that I've never seen an old movie that couldn't use some tighter editing.

I don't MIND some of these shows, but ... SO MUCH OF THEM!!

As for netflix, sadly, our internet is not that great. We tried it, but since we cannot get true high speed where we are, we just ended up watching a lot of buffering. I WISH we had it!

Oh gods. My father in law puts on all these old TV shows starting at dinnertime and going until he retires to his bed. Dragnet, Emergency!, Adam-12, M*A*S*H.... he could at least switch it up and give us some Magnum, P.I. or The A-Team, or any other '80s shows! Unless NCIS reruns are on, of course; that's the only current show he'll watch avidly.

The most annoying part is he has all those channels on his bedroom TV, which is the same damn size as the living room one.

I have been known to watch the occasional Storage Wars or Pawn Stars myself at times - if it's convenient and I want to switch my brain off - but the fake drama annoys me, too. I'm happier with something like 'American Restoration' where you actually get to see the guys fixing stuff ...

The constant channel-hopping, though, would drive me mad, too.

I do not get channel-hopping, not at all. The closest I come to understanding it is when I go to a hotel and I can't just pop in a DVD or pick something pre-recorded on my DVR, and I'm at the mercy of what's on right then and nothing else, eep. And then there's NOTHING on, nothing that I want to watch; I cycle through the hotel's fifty channels twice and end up leaving it on the most tolerable thing, and feel myself twitch every two minutes, thinking, "There MUST be something better on," but there isn't because I just checked two minutes ago, argh, why is hotel cable so lacking in anything I want to watch?!

Sounds like my dad. :P Can't leave the tv on one channel for more than 5 minutes to save his life. That being said, you shouldn't dis ALL black and white movies. ^_^ Maybe he's just not watching the right ones. Personally, I do tend to enjoy what would be the equivalent of romantic comedies from the late 30s and 40s.

i used to channel surf all the time back when I still got cable, and I'm not a dude! In fact it bugged the hell out of my roomie and he is a dude.

Oh god, my stepmother will leave storage wars and pawn stars on repeat ALL day. Even when she's not in the room, she'll leave the Telly on to come back to it. I have been known to hide the remotes, because those shows make me feel homicidal. The last time I was there I deleted those channels and replaced them with the BBC. Like your husband she's seen them all, and doesn't watch them. She leaves them on as background noise.

Okay, Storage Wars can be addicting, because of the mystery and the outrageousness of it, but I do feel my brain shrinking after a few episodes.

I *love* Pawn Stars. I like stuff, learning about the history of it, and the surprise at how much some of this stuff is worth.

I find I can't watch too many episodes of American Pickers (I'm assuming Canadian Pickers is similar) because the abundance of *stuff* sometimes activates an intense feeling of hatred. So, apparently I have a "stuff meter." It can be this amount of stuff and not that amount of stuff.

See? That's the thing. occasional. For him, he does it every night. And I'm sure he doesn't like them that much either, he's just ... surfing.

And I guess, there's no plot or anything, so you can easily flip between shows without really missing anything.

If I'm going to watch 'reality' tv, I'd prefer Hoarders, Intervention and The First 48. Not that I'd want THEM every night either, but at least they are more 'real' and less manufactured. They are too intense for hubby though.

We have DVD's and PVR, but I suppose that would mean COMITTING to a show, instead of just.... chilling? I don't know. It IS sort of a male phenomenon, and I guess I'm happy that he's not JUST watching sports 24/7.

And really, as bad habits go, this one is pretty mild, but I just had to vent. ;)

Oh, he's TOTALLY not watching the right b&w movies. I know there are some, but many of them still need to be edited. (not that there aren't lots of current movies that need it too.)

I think hubby goes (in his mind) "Oh! I like Jimmy Stewart!" and then clicks on any of the 100 shitty movies that Jimmy made, instead of the 10 or 20 good ones.

I enjoy the history part of Pawn Stars, but the PEOPLE drive me to drink.

All of the 'hijinx' is sooo manufactered, I can't stand it.

American/Canadian pickers is EXACTLY the same show, but just with different people. Same shit, different country. Trufax.

Yeah, Hoarders scares me, as does Intervention (which I only started to watch because RDJ said that was his favorite show, and after hysterically sobbing through two episodes, I decided that was all I could handle). Hoarders scares me in particular because I could have been a hoarder if I didn't drastically reform my ways. Now I'm a reformed hoarder, but still with some hoarder tendencies, like feeling extremely bad when I have to throw something out that has some remote semblance to sentiment.

See? That's exactly WHY I like hoarders. I could easily see that happening to me as well. Not dead kittens and adult diapers on the kitchen table, but my stuff gets out of hand, and I have to do a major clean-sweep or drown under it all. Hoarders makes me feel like I'm actually pretty normal!

As for Intervention, it's certainly not something I'd want to see every day, but it IS fascinating and compelling and ... real! Unlike so many of those other 'reality' shows.

Okay, the only thing I can say in his defense is that my husband and I are totally nerdy for Antiques Roadshow. Like, we get STUPID excited when it's on. We also thoroughly analyze each antique, and when it's highly appraised, we practically high-five each other. My husband is 25 (just turned.) You tell me how many 25 year old men get excited about Antiques Roadshow...

The other shows, I can't say much about. They would make me want to punch my own self in the face. My husband plays computer games or video games constantly. Really stupid game (not Call of Duty or normal 'boy' game.) I'd rather listen to Pawn Stars than computer beeps.
