Just because he's dumbed down by Loki doesn't take the hero out of the man. As has come up recently, heroes are not just those who run in without fear of being hurt. They lay everything on the line sometimes and still do what needs doing. Tony is that.

Does it make me a bad person for having the urge to Gibbs-slap Steve? If Steve had made it more clear to Tony that he was already proud of Tony, if Steve hadn't made Tony feel like he couldn't be much of a hero any more, would Tony still have felt compelled to - well, hell, hold up, Polly. Of course Tony would have still felt compelled. That's just who Tony is. But dang, this is kinda breaking my hard old heart, here.

I wonder if the rest of the Avengers have figured out (as an actual consciously figured-out thing, not just a vague sense of it) that now that he doesn't have the brainpower to obfuscate, it's really really clear what things are important to Tony.

(He's going to have to work overtime on his obfuscating to make up for it when he gets his mojo back.)
