Yay for the romantic lives of fictional characters! (isnt' it crazy how we can get so swept up in them?) And I certainly don't mean my comic. I often get all gleeful or weepy over THINGS THAT AREN'T EVEN REAL. WTF?
There's never been anything in any of many universes of Tonys to suggest that he's anything other than faithful. Long explanation short: Tony Stark is a painfully lonely person with self-value issues. Sex lets him feel less alone and briefly like someone thinks he's worthwhile. One night stand? Sure, he's a serial one night stander. Sex of the casually open relationship type? He sucks atit; it's not what he wants.
I whole heartedly agree. I could see, later on in a relationship, if it's not going well, and he's feeling down/unworthy/unloved that he might stray, but I think he has self esteem issues, not commitment issues.
I'm more familiar with comics!Tony, and there is more material there, but yeah. Commitment is what he wants, serial flings is what he settles for. Tony's the type to love forever, but believing it's going to fail because he's sure he'll do something to fuck it up. He's downright arrogant about what he is capable of doing, but his sense of worth as a person is ... "look for a solution to a problem, find the one most likely to destroy him and then *stop looking*"
Oh, I just re-read the whole thing and didn't realize the shower and a blowjob remark is a callback! I guess I'm just going to have to re-read it all more often. Darn.
I love that both times Tony has stated that "Loki's a dick" the chapter has ended with "would a shower and a blowjob convince you?" I have to admit though, I can't help hoping that eventually it'll be Steve's turn to do the convincing... will he offer the same proof if feeling or will he have some other trick up his sleeve?? Wonderful as always. :-D
