Gishwhes item #41
Aug. 11th, 2014 10:56 pmVIDEO or IMAGE. Go through a TSA (or your country’s equivalent) checkpoint dressed for snorkeling. Explain to the TSA what you're doing, prior to doing it. If they don't allow it, don't do it.
I wasn't holding my breath, and I didn't have a boarding pass, but I dressed up in my snorkelling outfit and went to the airport. I couldn't enter the security area without a boarding pass, but I asked to talk to a catsa manager and was re-directed a couple of times before being told that I would need to call Ottawa and get permission. *sigh* I called the number that they gave me, but only got a machine, so I did't bother leaving a message.
I have found that permission is much more easily granted for this kind of stuff in person. It's a very hard sell over the phone, and practically impossible in something as easy to ignore as email.
I went to a smaller airline that I deal with for my company for shipping, but they couldn't help me, since they were just the cargo area, and their passengers left through the regular airport, but they suggested I try a different small airline who DOES fly out passengers, so off I went!
I found a security guard, and she said … probably not, but we talked to her supervisor and he was all … *shrug* I guess so! :D yay!
Sam, my team member actually had to fly that same week, so she did the task also, so we mushed them together in the vid.

When she explained that I was covertly videoing it, apparently the dude told us that filming is totally permitted because it is a public place!
