Hello everyone!

Life has been busy, but good, so here's some photos of what's been going on in my life lately.

misc1
My local art store was having a kid's product promo, but I just couldn't resist getting a pic with these two. I showed the picture to my friends 4 year old daughter, and later, she very proudly told her older sister that "Tripper knows Princesses! REAL ONES!" :D

misc2
This really nice sex shop (right beside the art store … one stop shop!) always has great signs. I particularly liked this one.

misc3
I thought it would be cool to take a picture with this guy on my face. I was wrong. They have teeny-tiny claws that they use to 'stick' to stuff, and they scratched the hell out of my cheek! It didn't leave any marks or anything, but it really sort of burned for an hour or so afterwards.

misc4
This is the 'art' on the yogurt shop I frequent. It is OMG SO BAD! Like, scary bad. No, really, take a long look at how horrible and nightmare inducing it is. I had to take photographic documentation of it. *shudder*

misc6
Pumpkin fail. I had wanted to carve out 'Darryl' from the Walking Dead, but this pumpkin sucked balls. The 'meat' of it was way to thin, and what was there, was all stringy, like spaghetti squash. So I just made it a crappy, scary face instead.
misc5
I did a zombie for halloween this year. Liquid latex and kleenex and some freaky contacts. He's before I painted it up.

And here's after! It stayed on really well all day, even with my stuffing my face with candy and tacos, but hurt like a BITCH to take off! I think I pulled out every single hair on that side of my face.

Happy halloween everyone!

The yogurt shop art is HORRIBLE. I would run in fear. On the other hand, your zombie makeup is astonishing and I would sooner buy yogurt from you in full-on zombie than from THAT YOGURT SHOP.

Yes, it's frozen yogurt. They finally took the painting down. I asked about, subtly, because hey, maybe the owner did it or something? And the counter guy was like "Holy shit, the day that took that down was the best day of my life." :D

Thanks! Yeah, I was happy with how the zombie turned out. The yogurt place has finally taken that painting down. I look forward to what they come up with next!!

It was funny, I wore the zombie outfit to work and just about everyone totally avoided eye contact when speaking with me! I guess they freaked everyone out. :D

WHADDAYA MEAN I'M OUT OF CHARACTER WITH PRINCESSES?????

Thanks! It was my first try with latex, and I"m really happy with how it looked. Not to mention, the whole mouth/cheek thing came off in one piece. I could totally use it again if I wanted to.

Ugh, I HATE the pumpkin! So disappointing. I did a bunch of them last year that I really was proud of, but this was the only one I did this year, and it did not work out at all.

I don't like little wild spiders, but larger tarantulas are pretty chill.

THey finally took that horrible art down, and I"m looking forward to what goes up next!! It is seriously the worst public art I've ever seen.

it turned out really well. The cheek piece is fantastic and looks amazing even before the painting. What did you use for painting?
When I was younger I always thought about trying to make something like that for my brother (I have stupidly sensitive skin that doesn't like adhesives or anything) but never had the money to buy stuff to play with.

For painting, I used Staedtler watercolour crayons. I actually have them because they make pretty good face paints that wash off easily. We have some actual face paint SOMEWHERE around here, but I couldn't find it. I used some greens and yellows on my face and the latex, for that dead look, then used red and blue and purple (and a bit of black) for the majority of the flesh. After that I put some $1.99 fake blood on it to have the really 'wet' look. It dried up after a while, but still looked pretty good.

As for cost, the latex was a pretty big container, like a litre? I had no idea how much I'd need, and now I have enough for the next 20 halloweens. It was $20, but there were smaller ones there for cheaper, and now, since it's AFTER halloween, you could probably get it for half price.

Not to mention, that I've seen some tutorials that use white glue instead of latex, and that seems to work quite well and would probably come off a bit easier and be less irritating on your skin.

I have moderately sensitive skin, and was worried that the latex would bother me. Some bandaids REALLY irritate me, but this stuff didn't hurt or burn until I peeled it off. ;) Even today, two days later, my cheek is still a bit red.

Awesome. I'll have to have a look for the crayons. Yeah, I've not really looked for latex these days. I don't know that halloween is big enough in Aus for it to be on sale right now but I may have a look next week when I'm in civilisation. We don't really have any art stores here in the middle of nowhere.

I have used white glue and toilet paper to make book covers once but it didn't dry properly. Maybe it was the humidity or the type of glue I had.

Did you have to glue the latex on does it stick on its own?

OMG, Trip - scary post is scary. Your zombie make-up is really gruesome, but the spider on the face certainly rivals it. However, the shop window 'art' has to take first prize for terrifying: the longer one looks at it, the more creepily disturbing it becomes.

I like the princesses - good costumes.
