I haz new chickens!

Wow, I'm sooo cool, I know that my whole flist is squirming with envy, but I went out and bought some new chickens on Saturday! I belong to a group of amazingly kewl people who breed exotic poultry, and every year they have a big sale, and damnnit! I had to buy me some!

I think I now own waaay more roosters than any one person should. Rooster + Rooster does not equal chicken slash, it equals feathery bitch slapping in the barn yard, people! It also equals a whole lotta crowing in the morning (and day and evening).

Oh well, on to the pics of mah new birdz!!! Image heavy, so be warned. There is also a pic of my new bunny rabbit and my piggy and my barn cat.






Okay, these guys are called 'Frizzles' (de shizzle) and they are soo freakin' stoopid looking that they should not be allowed to live. I don't know if it shows up in the pic, but they look like those old style bathing caps that old ladies wear at public pools. Too funneh!



This boy did not want his pic taken. He's sooo purty, that I think I'll name him Lockheart. He's a Leghorn, btw.



This boy (and his girlfriend) seem to prefer to roost UNDER MY KID'S WINDOW thank you very much. Hubby locked them in the barn for the night. I forget what kind he is, Plymoth Rock or something like that.


This dood is a Jersey Giant. Super Friendly. We've had him for a while now, and we call him Fee and his girlfriend Fi. (as in Fee Fi Fo Fum)...giant...get it??


We take a break from our regularly scheduled chickens to bring you NORBERT the rabbit. He's a new addition and soo cute! I've never owned a bunny before. He lives in one of the chicken coops and really enjoys scaring the crap out of the chickens, by chasing them around.



These are the ones that he scares the crap out of lives with. "Up" and "the girls".

This is our barn cat 'Big'. No. I did not name her, and no, she is not big. (I also did not name "Up."



"Toopy" A polish crested, who some Rooster has plucked. Ah, chicken sex, you gotta love it!


And finally (before I crash your computer with too many images) here's Hogrid. I tried to get a flattering picture of him, but erm...I don't think he has one! He's such a sweet, honey ham, and loves his belly rubs! There's lots of other guys in the barn too, but we'll leave them for another day! :D

Lockhart is very pretty, as are the rest of the crew...um, how big do the black rooster and his mate stand? How high are those fences? O.o *not quite sure how to make friends with large birds, as N.O. City Park geese and swans are *scary*! (the ducks were cool, the others did not understand the concept of personal space, and how much of it small folk prefer to have!*

Oh God you made me happy with those photos... I adore birds and chickens and animals in general... Indeed I can't eat them.
I was vegetarian for 10 years and now I can eat only old cows' meat and only because I must do it for my health... I love too much the animals!

As for the "exotic poultry", I thought the bathing caps were pretty, but I think I could make them even better with some flour and a bit of oil. I can't wait to come visit and share all my hillbilly recipes. Hide the children.

The black rooster is about...30 inches tall. He is very friendly though. Well, not like he jumps in your lap to be petted, but he isn't aggressive. I've found that the smaller the rooster is, the eviller they are! *g*

We have some little Silkie roosters who are bastards! One of them takes a run at me at least once a day.

My son wanted to buy a goose the other day, and I was like....erm....no. I too, was traumatized by an errant goose when I was a child. :D

Nope, the chickens aren't much work at all. They live in the barn and/or they run all over the yard, so as long as they're fed and watered, theyre's not much else to do. We also have goats and a couple of miniature horses, and those guys, you have to clean up after! :D

Thank you! My chickens make me happy too! We also have some 'house' birds, some finches and canaries and some Rosellas. (they're like a huge budgie) Plus, a little wild Oriole that we rescued.

I'm a bird addict. No parrots though, too much work!

Hee, once, when Hogrid was still small enough to drive around on my lap, I went through the drive through and ordered a BLT sandwich. I felt guilty. But not guilty enough to not eat it! :D

Up is a meduim sized Rooster. Probably 24" tall, or so. They are the Houdan breed. They were my first chickens. We were at a country auction, and I was like OMG! I MUST OWN THOSE CHICKENS, THEY ARE SOO FUCKED UP! *g*

ha! Yeah, my life is pretty much like a state fair! (minus the state, of course).

I grew up in Toronto, so I'm pretty new to the country life, but I really love it out here, and it's such a great place to raise kids! The other day, we were sitting outside, eating our lunch, and the goats were coming around, begging for food, and I thought...Man! I would have KILLED for this when I was a kid. I'm sure my kids have no idea how lucky they are. Do any kids??? :D
