Thanks to everyone for following the whole WIP. I stuck them all together in one file, and I've also added my QFI (quest for improvement) pic, to see the difference a couple of years can make!

Wow, it is so cool to see them side by side like this! Between '05 and '06 there's a HUGE leap in improvement; between '06 and '07, it's refinement. That is....so cool! Now I'm all excited already for next year....only 12 months away!

Seriously, I *know* you have said that practice is the only difference between Nov. '05 and Nov '07, but it really is quite exciting and very encouraging to see it played out. So many people bemoan the fact that "they can't draw" *whistles innocently*, yet obviously if they apply themselves, they will improve. They may never be up to your skill level (though, dude, look where you started!), but they might be pleasantly surprised at what they can achieve.

Though, I will say that I wouldn't put it past you to have always been as amazingly talented an artist as you are today and that you just hired some homeless guy do the '05 version....;D

Yes, refinement! Exactly! I was worried that there wouldn't be a difference between last year and this, but I'm really happy with how the last Snape turned out. It's funny too, because after drawing the 06 Snape, I was afraid to pick up a pencil again. I felt that I would never be able to draw anything that good again. :D

Perhaps in 08 I'll manage some ANIMATED SNAPE!

Oh shit, do I evah! Everything is light and shadow and texture! I'm sure I creep people out by staring at them, even though I'm looking at the subtle highlight in the bridge of their nose, they probably think my medication isn't working. :D

So, did you take a bunch of classes after Nov 05, or was it all just practice and more practice? I think I would need advice from someone, you know?

Oh yes, this SHOULD serve as an inspiration to one and all!

I've only taken a couple of private art lessons in the two years, and mostly, they were more like personal critiques. I called a local art store and asked if they had anyone who was willing to teach privately. It took some calls, but I finally found someone who would do it. He showed me the types of tools that he used (very helpful) but mostly he looked at my (very crappy) stuff and showed me how to take it to the next level.

He actually wasn't even a great artist (I'm honestly, muuuch better than he is, now) but he was much more experienced, so his advice was very helpful.

I draw a LOT. Practically every day. Not because I want to practice and get better (which I do) but because I really, really love it. I think ANYONE could learn to be really good, if they practiced enough.

DO IT!!!!
