Look! I painted something!
Jun. 15th, 2008 11:52 amOkay, it's kitchen cupboards, but heh, made you look!
Our kitchen is pretty big, and FUCKIN' UGLY! It was made in 1973 and aside from the linolem, it has not been upgraded since. (well, we bought a dishwasher..)
We moved in here four years ago, and I have been dying to get the kitchen re-done the whole time. I was just waiting for enough $$$ for new cabinets. Fast forward four years...no cash, so I decided to roll up my sleeves and paint them myself.
Did I mention that I HATE painting??? elventy11!!
Anyhoo, the before:

I'm sure they were pritty 35 years ago, but the dark wood and tacky pseudo-gothic handles are just hideous now. And, of course, because of their age and the finish on them, I had to sand them, wipe them, prime them and then add two TWO coats of paint.
The after:

None of the new handles match, because we're trying to decide which one we like the best.
Now I just have the REST of the kitchen to do. This is only about a THIRD of it. *sigh*
Geez, check out the world's grossest range hood, stolen directly off of a 70s pirate ship!
*dies from the ugly* (and the mess)
Now, some nice (fake) dark granite countertops and lose the fugly striped wall paper, and we'll be done!
I'll post more of this WIP *snerk* as it happens. :D

Date: 2008-06-15 05:57 pm (UTC)I actually like to paint walls, and I have managed to paint every room in our house except our bedroom in the four years we have lived in this house. We just had two rooms in our basement finished. The previous owner had put up sheetrock, but hadn't done the mudding and taping, and there was no ceiling. I'm trying to get the walls done ( over 700 sq. feet of floor space) so that we can have carpeting installed. Then we can put all the toys downstairs, and take over the playroom as a work area, since the hubby works at home two days per week, and we are both in school.
Good luck with the painting! :)

Date: 2008-06-16 01:23 am (UTC)The counter is only clear, because I was PAINTING over it. Honestly, we probably shouldn't bother replacing the countertop because we never actually see it. :D
Lots of rentals will let you paint, as long as it's neutral.

Date: 2008-06-16 01:25 am (UTC)I hate painting, but I did the boy's rooms (I should post pics, they're quite cute, with planets and glowing stars and such) plus our bedroom.
Note to self...NEVER PAINT ANYTHING RED EVER AGAIN. I think it took 6 coats and it still isn't quite right.

Date: 2008-06-16 02:46 am (UTC)Yes, you should post some pics of the boy's rooms! I totally fail at being able to paint anything other than plain walls. :)

Date: 2008-06-16 03:24 am (UTC)The boy's rooms were done BEFORE I decided to take up art, so they're not great. Way cooler than any room *I* had as a kid, mind you, but not exactly extreme Makeover cool, if you KWIM. :D
