I was waiting at the 'womenly' doctor and didn't bring a sketchbook. blech. So I ended up drawing on my banking paper.

Oh darling, you have ducks and chicks now!!! Awww!!! I'd love to have them like pets but I live in an (AWFUL) city, in a condo... I want some green so I could keep my lil cat with me instead to give her to my parents in law (which I can't stand damn...)
Sorry for the vent...
I'd love to talk about what you asked me some time ago, maybe privately. <3

Yes, we live outside the city, on four acres. Hardly a spralling farm, but I'm such an animal nut that this is really a dream come true.

We also have horses, chickens, goats and a pot-bellied pig. I'll post some pics later today, if it isn't raining.

As for the 'thing' pm me, or email tripperfunster at live dot com

Whenever it's convenient for you. No rush.

It's beautiful, and his hand is gorgeous.
Next month is Zack's b-day and he wants, no, insists, on a parakeet. *sigh* He actually thinks he's gonna be able to play with it like a dog, so we've been trying to talk him out of it but he won't change his mind. Poor parakeet. I'm afraid it's gonna have a miserable life. I'd much rather have the chicks and ducks. LOL!

Budgies can actually be great pets. Zack is... 6? 7? I know he's close to Harrison's age. As long as he knows how to be gentle (yeah, some guys NEVER learn that...) it could be a great pet for him.

Try to find one that is already friendly enough to sit on your finger without trying to bite it off. The trick to taming budgies (and most birds) is to take it in many, small sessions. Try to take it out of the cage as many times per day as you have time for, (like 6-10) but only for 5 minutes at a time. If it's biting, put on a thin garden glove. (you still want to be able to feel if you're squishing it to death.)

Basically, budgies are very social creatures, and really want/need affection. The problem is, that he's afraid of you, and thinks you're going to eat him. The more you handle him and DON'T eat him, the more he'll chill out and enjoy your company. Eventually, he'll scream when you put him back in his cage, because he wants to stay out and play with you.

Note: make sure his wings are clipped before you buy him. (It's like a haircut and doesn't hurt or bleed.) You'll never tame him if he is flying away. The wing trim lasts anywhere from a month to four months, and then you can trim him yourself or take him back to the store or the vet.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, truly. It'll help a lot. Although, after reading what you said about the bird being afraid we'll eat him, when I told my dad that Zack, who will be 7 next month, wanted a parakeet, dad said he had a sudden vision of the bird on it's back with it's legs up next the the Thanksgiving turkey. LOL! Zack hasn't been known to be too gentle with the dog.
But don't worry, he won't be allowed to pet or play with it if me or hubby isn't there with him. He mostly wants it to sit on his finger and to teach it to talk. He wants to name it Spongebob Dil Pickles Moore. What a mouthful! lol.
Thanks again. Your advice will be followed.

I really wanted some geese, but there weren't any for sale. :(

These guys are pretty shy still, so I'm hoping they'll chill out and boogie around the yard soon, instead of huddling in the corner of the barn like they're going to be Thanksgiving dinner!

The Cluck and Quack Club--whatdyou guys do at meetings?

OOo, yummy art--I love his eyes. He's not what I usually picture, but with this I'll be a chameleon and change my mind.

To be honest, I don't generally picture the 'Mauraders' at all. I was hoping to cobble something together last minute for Hump_day_smut, but had no time, and was only able to come up with this lame G rated sketch. Oh well.

As for the 'club', I've never actually gone to a meeting, I just want the internet updates on who owns/is selling/is looking for what.

But from what I understand, anyone can host a meeting, and basically, you get to see how other people have their animals set up. I've been to a couple of members houses, to buy stuff, and honestly, it's pretty interesting. Lots of people think *I* have a zoo, but I've got nuthin' on some of these other people! Peacocks, pheasants, alpacas, etc. Makes my place look pretty tame.

What I thought was so interesting about your Sirius is that he didn't look at all like Gary; I guess that's because of your ref pic, huh?

I've always wanted to have a peacock! Reminds me of Fantasy Island. I saw the duck pictures!

Gary Oldman is NOT my Sirius. I love the guy, and although he's 'sexy' he is NOT good looking! Very bad casting, if you ask me. I think he would have rocked as Remus.

As for peacocks, I know someone who breeds them, but they basically have a call that sounds like HELP! HELP! I could not handle that all hours of the day and night.

Ha! Quincey named the girl duck "Selima" ??WTF?
and Harry named the boy 'Donald.' Get it? Donald duck? *snicker*

So, Donald and Selima it is. We have so many pets, that they often don't get named at all, or are named by their breed or colour. ie; The Brown Girls or the Spotted Araucanas etc. Seriously, after your like, millionth animal, it gets hard to be original.
