On one side across the road from us live our neighbours who don't fix their cats. So, not only do I get to 'rescue and fix' the ones that wander over here, but I also have the joy of finding little kittens run over by cars from time to time.

On the other side, we have new neighbours. A young couple with a baby. They recently purchased a dog ( a cute smallish golden retriever type thing) and this dog has decided that he likes living at our house instead. I honestly can't go outside without this dog showing up for attention.

This wouldn't normally be a problem, but this dog is a big puppy, and has NO MANNERS WHATSOEVER. Also, not a huge problem, but MY dogs HATE him. Like, HATE HIM. *snicker* He's much bigger than them, and he's very playful and friendly, but they would prefer that he just died. Painfully. One of my dogs won't even go outside now. I basically have to THROW him out the door.

'Jesse' as we've named this interloper is also hated by the horses and goats. Jesse loves our kids, but is such a big galoot that he jumps on them and knocks them down. So now my kids don't want to go outside either.

We won't even talk about the fact that Jesse loves to chase cars, and I have almost run over him more than a few times.

Yesterday hubby put a leash on Jesse and walked him back home. Nobody was there, so he put Jesse in the garage, then called the neighbours and left a message on their machine. Something to the effect of, "Gosh, your dog is a real sweetheart, but he's destructive and too rambunctious for our kids.. bla bla bla."

We did not hear back from them. So today, we called again, and there was no answer. So I went over there, to check on the dog (he had no water in the garage) and sure enough, nobody was home, nor had anyone been home since yesterday. WTF? It is SOOO GODDAMNED COLD HERE! Like, -25 celcius DURING THE DAY. And they left their dog outside with no food or water? I mean, he can eat snow, but that really can bring down your core body temp pretty quickly.

The poor thing peed for about an hour when I let him out, and now, of course, he is running willy nilly all over our yard, because I didn't have the heart to lock him up again, not knowing when they'd be home. I'll go back and put him in the garage again tonight, so he doesn't freeze to death, but I'm honestly tempted to take him to the humane society. Except, of course, that we've left a message on their machine, and it wouldn't take Sherlock to figure out what happened. >:(

I'm not a super pet owner. I don't celebrate my animal's birthdays (lots of people do) and we don't wrap any gifts for them under the tree, but FOOD AND SHELTER? Pretty basic stuff here people!

That's fucked up, all over. You should take him to the humane society, that's mistreatment of an animal. Period. The humane society would agree with you on that. You can tell your neighbors, "I found your dog wandering around outside with no one home. I tried for two days to bring him back, and since it's not MY respronsibility to provide him food and shelter (yeah, it's yours) I brought him somewhere where they WOULD take care of him. You can take it up with the Humane Society."
It would also make you feel *great* to do that. But I've got a vindictive streak, so...

'willy nilly'. *snicker*
That sounds so funny.
Aside from that, what are those people thinking, leaving that poor thing outside with nothing! Also, I understand about other peoples dogs in the yard. We had one a couple years ago, he stole everything that wasn't nailed down outside! To this day, Zack is still angry that that dog picked up and ran off with his Spongebob sand pail. LOL!

I have had to call the local shelter and it's worked well... they get the Humane Society volunteers after these people, and take away their pets if they don't clean up their act. I was impressed with the system. Sounds like Jesse would be tres adoptable, young and cute, etc.

dont get me started on people who dont bother to TRAIN their dogs, then throw up their hands when they are annoying.

Oh that is terrible! I can't STAND it when people get an animal, then when the excitement or novelty of having pet wears off they just pretty much abandon it. So so sad! That pet depends on it people to take care of him, and to just leave him out in the cold to fend for himself is so sad. People around here like to just chain up their dogs (mostly pit bulls) to a tree in their back yard. All. FUCKING. DAY. Whats the point in having a dog if all you're going to do is chain it up and leave it there!!??! We have a mini dachshund and this stupid dog is not spoiled but he's pretty damn lucky, He even sleeps in the bed with me and hubby. haha. Ok now I'm getting off topic. I just can't stand irresponsible pet owners. They make me want to beat them.

This sort of mindless neglect of pets really chaps my hide. No wonder the little guy loves hanging out in your yard - he's starved for attention.

Uhm. Wtf. Take him to D'arcy's A.R.C. or something. They're mistreating their animal. They shouldn't have him. And if he's a puppy I'm sure he'll get adopted right away. And if you make a bad impression on your neighbors and they turn out to be nice people just explain. Their animal had gotten out or been left out, and because of your own children and dogs, you couldn't take care of it, and thought that it would be best to bring it to the humane society so it didn't freeze to death if you couldn't make it over there to check on it all the time. *head desk* People like that make me so damn fucking angry!! *rage* I would keeeeel them.

I vote you take him to the humane society. Sure, they'll know it was you, but...seriously, the dog would be better off. And it'd be a good message to them that there are people paying attention and won't just let them get away with mistreating their pets.

Ugh. I'm stuck between thinking those kind of people really are retarded or just mean. Like you said, food and shelter. It's not fucking rocket science.

They need to be reported, you just don't go off & leave a dog outside in that sort of weather with nothing. He doesn't look like he's getting the attention & training he needs either - by the way he acts he sounds like he's starved for affection, let along that bit of structure 'n discipline that all dogs require (they sound like the sort who think dogs are like cats... no, scratch that, they sound like the sort who think dogs are like old matchbox cars...)

"He's much bigger than them, and he's very playful and friendly, but they would prefer that he just died. Painfully." I have seen that look on my dog's faces when they were faced with a similar onslaught lol!

O.O The poor dog!

I'd call the humane society, and wish terribly that I could lock the neighbors out like they did to the poor thing.
