We are flooding in epic proportions in our area.
We recieved a voluntary evacuation notice yesterday, but meh, I don't think we'll be leaving any time soon. (and I don't think the local hotel takes horses and pigs and chickens and dogs and peacocks anyhoo...)

Anyway, here's some pics of water.

This is along the highway, about a mile or two from our house. Normally, there is a ditch, then a gravel access road, and then a mile or two of farmer's fields. Now? Mostly a lake.

Same area, different angle. That line of trees, way in the distance is where the river usually is. Except, it's sort of down a bit of a gulch, so you can't see the water.

One of our neighbours. We would be just as wet, but the previous owner of our house built a huge cement wall and an earth dike around our property.

Speaking of ring dikes, that barn in the distance is only dry because the 'land' you see there is a raised ring around the propery. Lots of people have to boat to their house, because the road leading home is under water. Bizzare!

This is the view from our living room. It's actually quite beautiful, and reminds me of being at the cottage! (not that we have a cottage, but you know ...)
The bottom eighth of the pic is our cement wall, and beyond that is water. Again, that line of trees, way in the distance is where the river usually is. This is normally a field of wheat or soy beans.

The river is supposed to crest in the next couple of days, and I'm hoping we manage to stay dry until then. We are pretty well protected, but many of the people around us are not. :(

Thank you! So far we are fine, and if we can last just a few more days, the water should start to go down.
