OMG SO COOL!
Jun. 2nd, 2009 02:56 pmAhahahha!
duva just informed me that my Kock/Spork art was IN THE LARGEST SWEDISH NEWSPAPER TODAY!
How effin cool is that?? pdf link You have to scroll down to page 5. I babylfished the article, and couldn't make much sense of it, other than how people have slashed the two all along and how TOS practically encouraged it. And at the end, the writer of the article invites people to BRING ON THE CHEKOV SLASH! teehee!
Man, I am so chuffed! Thanks so much,
duva for linking me!

Plus, it's not like it's NC17 or anything. I think the folks at my church will be ... oh .. wait .. I don't have a church.

Date: 2009-06-03 02:06 pm (UTC)It seems well translated, but obviously, I can't be sure.
Do you live in Sweden? Because I would really love an actual paper copy of that page. I asked Duva, but she didn't have a copy, and I even emailed the writer of the article, but she has yet to write back.
If you *could* get a copy for me, I'd be forever in your debt, and would gladly pay you back for any shipping costs.
Thanks again for the offer, I really appreciate it!

Date: 2009-06-03 05:11 pm (UTC)What about permission for publishing?
Date: 2009-06-03 05:42 pm (UTC)I'm very surprised to learn that you did not know that this was being published. You see, you actually own the copyright to art you created, and a newspaper that wants to publish it must get your permission, and pay you for it. For some pictures, like paparazzi, they can pay a large amount of money -- for most other pictures, like this, the sum is more modest. Nevertheless, they are not allowed to publish it without your permission, and you are entitled to ask them to pay you for them to publish it.
That's why they should have contacted you in the first place, so you could have agreed on a price for them to pay. Now that they have published you without asking you for the price, you can have them pay you in retrospect. (Let me know if you want details on how to do that.)
The reason I'm bringing this up, is not only because I want you to earn money on your work. It's also because the newspaper in question, Dagens Nyheter, has been very aggressive towards the modern Internet community and sharing of culture that's taking place right here, on the net. They have aggressively defended the old copyright law, that prohibits anyone (Dagens Nyheter included) from copying and sharing pictures you find on the Internet, without first negotiating of a price with the person who created it. And they have been very harsh in several articles about "pirates" that copy material without permission.
But if they really did print your picture without your approval -- then they are "pirates" themselves, which is very embarrassing for them indeed!
So, I therefore ask: Is it really true that Dagens Nyheter did not ask you for permission to print this picture?
Re: What about permission for publishing?
Date: 2009-06-04 01:36 am (UTC)There is often controversy about making money from fan art. I do not own the characters, therefore I cannot make money from them. I am perfectly fine with that, and was thrilled to have my picture used.
I do know a few people who would have been quite bothered by having their art (or fiction) used or even talked about in a main stream forum like a newspaper without their consent. Not everyone is proud about the slash porn that they make.
It has always been my opinion that once I put something out on the internet, I basically give up all rights to it. It is NICE when people ask to use it, but I don't lose sleep over it.
It is odd, though, if that newspaper in question has stated that they are against that sort of thing, and then are the perpetrators themselves!
Thank you for your concern. I would have gladly let them use it free of charge, but you are right, it would have been even better if they had asked.
