Big Girl Panties, I haz dem
Jul. 4th, 2010 07:15 pmWell, it is looking like I will NOT be able to attend Infinitus. :(
We have some epic employee fail at work right now, and are down two staff members, and a third has booked her vacation at the same time I am supposed to be away. To her credit, she booked it before I informed them about my plans, and at the time, we had two more people that could have filled in. But not now.
And her plans revolve around a music fest, so it's not like she can really change them.
I sent an email to the Infinitus people to let them know I would not be able to do the Draw Your Own Harry workshop. I really don't want to screw them over. I hope they haven't printed out the books already.
As for my roomies: Dove, I am so sorry. I know you guys were counting on my $$$, and I know you're short of money yourself right now. I've already paid for my "Night of 1000 Wizards" Perhaps I can get that refunded and send it to you guys?
The only thing that might turn this around is if I can bribe vacation!employee to miss her fest. I'm not sure how married she is to being there, but perhaps if I offer her some extra cash to take her vacation at a different time, I might still be able to go.
I also have a call in to a former employee, to see if they'd like to pick up a week's work. I won't hear from him until after the 7th.
Basically, I have resigned myself to not going, and if things *do* work out, then it will be an extra special yay. Sometimes owning your own business and/or being the boss SUCKS.

Date: 2010-07-05 03:11 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm hoping concert girl can be bribed. I mean, geez, it's gonna cost me a couple of hundred dollars to cancel my tickets and flights ,etc, so why not offer it to her?
I'm hoping her needs are high and her ideals are low. ;)

Date: 2010-07-05 01:07 am (UTC)This is an awful situation. I hope an ex-employee can pull through at the last minute so that you can go.

Date: 2010-07-05 03:18 am (UTC)Yeah, he didn't sound overly enthused, but ... he's a pretty mellow guy, so I supposed we'll see.
You must send me a pin, if I don't get to go. I'll trade you for some stickers that I'm having made. :D

Re: i haz dem big girl panties too
Date: 2010-07-05 03:25 am (UTC)Yeah, I seriously cannot count the number of aborted days off/at the beach/birthday parties, etc that I've missed last minute because someone calls in sick or quits etc.
Actually, one of the people we just lost had book the two weeks prior to my trip off, and was to be back the day I left. She informed us last week (five days before she was leaving) that she was going to be gone an extra week.
NOT COOL.
We told her no, so she quit. She was inches from being fired anyway, so no big loss, except for this whole trip thing. Then yesterday, a different girl gave her notice. She's found a job with benefits. I don't blame her for leaving, but her timing is shit.
*sigh* *adjusts panties*

Date: 2010-07-06 03:32 am (UTC)Well, you *could* do what the small businesses do in my town - close while you go on vacation. We seem to have a lot of eccentric small business owners (have no posted hours, close on really pretty days to go fishing/hunting - seriously, it's like Mayberry) and none of them are out of business yet. Most after being around and doing business like they did 35 years ago.

Date: 2010-07-06 01:01 pm (UTC)We are actually talking about changing our hours, to make our days shorter. That would make Infiniuts do-able. We've been playing with the idea for a while, but it looks like it might happen now.
