I am in a part of the world where we have a 'time change' twice a year. We turn the clocks back one hour in the fall and ahead one hour in the spring. (Do they do this anywhere outside of North America?)

Anyhoo, five minutes before we are supposed to open our store, there is a banging on the front door. I check the time, and since it's only 5 min early, I decide to let the man in.

Man: Were you people even going to bother opening up today?

Me: Yes. We actually don't open until noon.

Man: I know, but it's already 1pm.

Me: Actually, last night was the time change and-

Man: (interrupting) I KNOW! AND NOW IT'S 1PM!

Me: *points at clock* It is almost noon.

Man: If that's going to be your attitude, then I"m going to take my business somewhere else.

Me and the other employees look at each other and start laughing.

Me: OKAY! :D

The customer then proceeded to stomp out. I can only imagine how stupid he felt when he realized he was wrong.

As a small business, I can't really afford to lose customers over stupid things like this, but ... aside from creating an alternate universe, I'm not sure how this conversation could have had a different ending.

Pfff. What a dumbass. I hate it when people are like that, when they're so riled up that they can't comprehend that they might have made a mistake.

Pretty much everywhere does daylight saving, AFAIK. Off the top of my head, North America, Europe, China, and Australasia do. Not everyone calls it quite the same thing (Aussie and America seem to talk about daylight savings time vs standard time, but the Brits have British Summer Time). The "spring forward, fall back" thing is completely new to me, though, something I only came across in the last few months, so that way of remembering sure isn't worldwide. Possibly because not everyone in the English speaking world uses "fall" for "autumn". I can understand people missing the instructions to put their clocks back/forward, and I can understand them putting them the wrong way--I'm never sure, even as an adult, and now that I don't watch much TV and don't read the physical version of the newspaper, and therefore don't catch the reminder ads, I'm not sure how I'd cope if my computer and phone didn't automagically update themselves to the correct time--but taking the default position that you're right and everyone else must be having you on seems a bit arrogant in this instance.

Hopefully your customer will return eventually and you'll put on a very good front of not remembering the Unfortunate Incident in which he made an ass of himself, and then all will be well. :-)

What a sad, strange little man. I hope he comes back to apologize, though, when has a customer ever done that?

Hopefully he'll realize he was a STUPID ASS and bring his business back.

I'm happy that your staff are good tempered too, dear. Here we say the customer ALWAYS is right, but some things are simply ridiculous ^^

Thanks goodness China does not do this BS. I vividly remember hating daylight savings when I lived in the EU. It fucked over my whole bio-rhythm twice a year.

And wow, that dude's an ass. Who get's worked up over something like that. Don't you guys have a pet store? Not an ER. And he got let in, too. Some people...
