Photoshop question (or two)

Hey guys!

How do I import textures into photoshop? I can do brushes, 'cause there's a little tab when brushes are open, but I don't see any sort of tabs in textures.

Also, is there a way to 'undo' more than the twenty or so undo's that are in the undo tab? I seem to have some 'layer' issues, where I draw on the wrong one, and then run out of 'undo's to fix it.

Also also, is there a way to rotate a brush? Like the 'grass blade' brush only points up. What if I want it to go sideways or at a 20% angle? I can rotate the picture, but it's very slow and clumsy to do that.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Oh, and any extra helpful brushes or textures (or other things) you'd recc? I love to know!

In my version (CS), in the Edit menu there's an option called Define Pattern. What you do is you select part of an image with the rectangular marquee, then choose Define Pattern, give it a name, and it becomes available as a fill texture. Is that what you had in mind?

ETA: Sorry, that was sort of unclear. What I meant was, you open the image you want to use as the texture, and then Select All (or select the part of the image you want to make into the texture). Then you choose Define Pattern in the Edit menu.

(Sorry, didn't see the rest of your comment.)

There's no way to undo more actions than the history palette contains, that I know of. What you can do is periodically save a snapshot, if you think you're going to do something risky that you may want to reverse. Snapshot is the little camera-shaped icon in the lower right corner of the history palette.

Don't know about rotating a brush. I think you'd have to make a new brush to do that - unless there's a new feature and my version is just old. Photoshop's painting features are kind of rudimentary - other programs (like Corel Painter) have much more complex painting tools.

I have a ton of tablet painting brushes I could send you. PM me with your e-mail address if you'd like 'em. They're good for drawing!

I know you can load textures, but not the way you load a brush.

You can change brush properties.

it would be easier to talk u thru this on the phone.

You might be confusing "textures" with "patterns" in Photoshop. Like brushes, you can download patterns (the ending of the filename is .pat) and you can access them through the paintbucket tool. (If you really do mean textures tell me I'm off the mark and I'll attempt a second more accurate answer for you!)

To undo more than twenty times, go to Edit> Preferences> Performance and look for History States at the top right. You can change this to any number you’d like, up to 1000.

Do you know how to access the brush palette? That will give you oodles of options on how to change that "grass blade" brush and how it points. Once the brush palette is open, for example, clicking "scattering" will make those blades of grass go all kinds of directions.
