GISHWHES 84 Gold Medalist
Nov. 21st, 2012 10:12 pmStand next to a REAL Olympic gold or silver medal winner. They must have their arms upraised in victory, but you must be biting on the medal while it's around their neck. Must include medal winners name in the photo.

Man, I searched high and low for an olympic athlete who lives near me, and came up with nothing! I'm sure there are some, but it's not like they have their phone numbers and home addresses listed on the internet. :D But then, after shameless begging and whoring, I found someone who's sister worked with Paralympic althletes, and she got a hold of this lovely woman for me, who agreed to do it.
Kirby Cote won FIVE GOLD MEDALS and even broke a world record. How cool is that? I called her and she said she would totally do it, but she didn't have her medals with her. I told her that I was desperate and would gladly drive to wherever they were. (thinking they were like, in her hometown, somewhere in rural Manitoba or something.)
Turns out they were just in the north end of the city at her parents house, and she was downtown helping a friend move. I said, "You don't know me from Adam, and I totally get it if you're not comfortable with me picking them up, but I'm more than willing to do it."
She was like ... OKAY! :D OMG! I'm a pretty trusting, optimistic person, but there is NO WAY I would trust a total stranger with my gold medals! (not that I have any medals, of course!!)
So I drove there, met her dad, got this GORGEOUS Sydney Olympics medal and drove it (CAREFULLY) downtown for the photo. She told me not to really bite it, because someone did it to a friend of hers, and it actually left teeth marks! Needless to say, I was very gentle!
The lesson for this item is TENACITY. I bet I asked fifty people if they knew any Olympic athletes. I even got a hold of one, and he was willing to do it, but he had moved away to the other side of the country, so no go.
The fifty-first person was my contact who pulled through.
