So ... I've drawn something on paper, photographed it, made a duplicate layer, set it to multiply, and then coloured 'behind' it. Standard stuff.

Now, say I want to move it on to a new paper. (I drew two images, and need to move them into better positions.)

How can I select the single image (which I have all on one layer) AND keep the black inked background (which is the duplicate layer?)

I tried to do it before colouring, but ... it just left a big 'rip' in the page. is there a way to select just the coloured image and the black outline without the rest of the page?
Thanks in advance bb's!

Not entirely sure what you're asking - is the problem that you want to select part of the b&w artwork and move it around in the picture without it looking like you've cut out a piece of the paper and moved it? And when you say the single image is all on one layer, do you mean the color and the b&w outline both?

yes, that is what I want to do. I've made the colour be all one layer, and the black outlines are the 'duplicate' layer, set to multiply.

I want to move the two characters on the page so that they are better positioned to each other, but yeah, when I do that, it looks like I've taken a pair of scissors and cut them out, leaving the little checkerboard non background behind them.

What you could do is just move the figures on the b&w layer and then fill in the "rip" with the gray value of the paper. Would that work, do you think? It might still leave a faint line where the clipping was, but maybe you could smudge that...

You could compress/flatten the layers, drag the whole thing to another "page" and then do an Edit-> Undo. . . that should work. . because you need both lines and color on one layer

If that IS what you're asking for. . .

You can use clonestamp to duplicate the paper texture. You first go to the layer you want to use clonestamp on. Hold down the alt key, the cursor will change to a sampling point, than click the area you want duplicated. Then go to a new layer and click and draw where you want the cloned image. As you draw, a little cross shows up to show you where on the original image you are taking the clone image from and a circle appears where you are drawing. Then blur the edges to have the results fade in and look natural.
