tripperfunsterWe had a meeting with many concerned parents, plus a couple of teachers, some higher ups and the principal. It went nowhere. Tons of people spoke up about what a terrible idea it was, how they are already having problems with their kids keeping up/feeling safe/fitting in, etc.
The principal and school trustee <-----*asshole* and the two superintendants had NO ANSWERS, except ... well, STATISTICALLY, these things work themselves out.
Our principal is quite the little politician, and can talk his way around a question without ever even HINTING at the actual answer. Someone even called him on that, saying, ANSWER MY QUESTION, and he still talked around it, talked around it, talked around it. grrrr
I stood up, and said; "I am totally against what you are proposing here. What can *I* do to make this not happen? I am willing to volunteer my time, my talents and even do fundraising."
Their answer? .... nothing. I swear to god, they SHRUGGED.
They say that this is not happening for sure, but they can offer NO other alternatives. So, obviously, unless we do something to stop it, it will happen. Prompted by some parents, I've drawn up a short petition. Showing the school board that the vast majority of parents involved disagree with the plan, might be the beginning of some change.
Would anyone be willing to beta it for me? (alternative suggestions on wording and such are most welcome.

Petition of the concerned parents of the children of Ecole St. Adolphe
As parents and guardians of school aged (or soon to be school aged) children, we have grave concerns about the school’s plan to implement multi-aged classes. Despite a meeting at the school with both the principal and superintendents, we do not feel that our worries were addressed, nor were we given any viable alternatives to this initiative.
We do not believe that multiple grade level classes are in the best interests of our children. We are concerned about their education, their safety and their emotional wellbeing. Please help us to find an option that we can support as a community.

Date: 2011-05-20 04:23 am (UTC)Do you have an option to replace the one you don't like? I've always found in business that merely saying you are unhappy with a problem nets you very little. Coming up with an actual(and possibly better or even just doable) solution and offering it is more helpful to your cause.
The people in the position to make a decision basically don't want to bother themselves trying to come up with anything when there is a (viable if unpleasant) solution already available. If you can give them a solution that keeps them from exerting themselves AND makes the dissenters like you happier, they may take your choice.
