Here's Snape, still on the loom.

God! Beads are so friggin' hard to photograph! I tried to take a good one of the Snarry now that it's off the loom, and it's like the camera can't deal with the details and makes it all ... liney.

Anyhoo, here they are.

Obviously I still need to stretch out my original design so that they don't end up so skinny! (not that I don't loves me a skinny Snape.)
This one is 75 beads across and 65 down.

Here's the Snarry off the loom.

Looking at it now, I wish I'd gone a shade darker on everything, but oh well, live and learn!

These are both for sale, btw. (funding a trip at the end of Nov.)
I'll send them glued and each string knotted mutltiple times to facillitate non slippage. They're pretty tough this way, but are still able to be sewn to any surface. (you can seen the knots in the Snarry one. They can also be cut a lot shorter, but I'll leave that to the buyer.)

I will also consider a bead comission. :D

Thank you! It's still a bit of a ... learning process for me. There's not much info out there on how to do this!

Me either! A couple of years ago a saw a much smaller design on a purse at the fandom Ball in .... San Francisco? It was really just in passing, but my brain stored it away until a couple of weeks ago.

I'm sure there are other people somewhere doing this, but I've not met any of them.

LOL- I own that purse. It was made by Lita Skeeter. She gave it to me at Infinitus. (it was my snape image..)

Get out of here! Really?

Could you send me a photo of it? I only have very vague memories of it, but it def inspired me!

Wow, that's great! Thanks for sharing that.

Oddly enough, it's not remotely how I remember it, but as I said, I think I just saw it in passing, and was like ... cool! I want to make something like that.

Has she made other things like that?

Yes she made a different bag. =)

Omg I misread your subject as "Bedded Snape" xDDDDDDDD!

He looks gorgeous, I think probably my favourite of your beaded pieces so far!

Ha yes! We, as fandomers, have certain expectations! :D

I am constantly perving up completely innocent things too. :D

And thanks! Yes, I'm very happy with how he turned out. Now I must concentrate on my son's Halloween costume. THEN moar bedding. *cough* beading!!

Thank you! Neither have I!

I'd seen (online) some Star Trek instillations with spools of thread, and they sort of inspired this.

Any and all bead loom stuff I've seen has been Native american type patterns.

Wow, Tripp, although I shouldn't be surprised. You had the patience to do pointillism and that crazy cross-hatch stuff. I can see where you'd be a glutton for beads too. They're beautiful.

<3

This was MUCH quicker than pointilism.

Oddly enough, I'm not a terribly patient person. More than i was 20 years ago mind, but still ...

Just ask my kids! :D

Those are really amazing! How long does it take to make something on that scale using that particular medium?

From: [identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com
Thanks!

The Snarry one was 90 beads across, and took about ... 10-15 minutes per row. (assuming I didn't make any mistakes and have to go back and remove or add beads, which happened more times that I care to remember.) and was 62 rows tall. So *multiplies* around 13 hours of just beading? Add to that tweaking the design, choosing which colours of beads should go where etc, probably add another 4 or so hours? Oh, and knotting it took about an hour. Okay, now I'm depressed. :D

The second one went quicker. I was a bit better at not making mistakes, and managed to be a bit quicker with picking up the beads onto the needle. Snape was 75 beads across and 65 rows high. Probably more like 7-9 minutes per row, so 9 hours of beading?

If I got paid by the minute, I'd be rich! :D

I would hope, that as I improve, my time will get better.

I hope you atleast charge a fair amount for all that time and effort put in! I tried my hand at loom beading for about... 4 minutes. I'd rather hand bead a wedding dress bodice. I don't have the patience, but I envy all those who do, because the work always turns out so beautiful.
Any plans to turn some Megamind into a beaded beauty? :D

Thanks! I must have taken 10 different pics of them, to get them right. In the wrong light they're very ...impressionistic, but in the right light, they're practically photographic.

And oddly enough, the farther away you are, the better they look. I should have just posted little thumbnails. :D
