Pfffft Really?
Nov. 23rd, 2011 09:53 pmWhat the ever loving hell? Is it just me?
Here is a 'conversation' I had with someone on dA, regarding my pic of Doof and Perry sounding, which I slap-dash covered up in photoshop to make it look like they were playing chess.

Also? I am assuming this is a 'him' from some pictures on his profile, but i could be wrong.
Him: gotta be honest, I came back here just for DAT CHESSBOARD.
Me:Yes, it is 100% accurate to the standards of the International Chess Association of the Free World.
Him: AW YEAH CHESSSHOP.
i have no clue what a chess shop is excuse me i am just derping all over this page. I think I like your Doof, even though I'd like to see a little more meat and muscle on him. I guess that just comes with experimentation and development of style though, so that's something that just takes time.
Me:But ... but Doof doesn't HAVE any meat or muscle. He's skinny with a pot belly. Canon baby!
Him: doesn't have any meat or muscle
he's a walking skeleton with a balloon strapped to his stomach? please tell me you don't think that's how the human body works.
Me: {links to a screen shot of Doof}
do you see some sort of anatomy that I've missed here?
You DO know he's a cartoon, right?
and yeah, I happen to have a body of my very own, so I"m pretty familiar with how they work.
Him: uh, yeah. {same link I gave him} That's SO TOTALLY EXACTLY HOW YOU DRAW HIM. /blatant lies
I am aware he's a cartoon. I'm just saying you don't have to liken him to a stick figure. If you don't wanna get any better at art, fine, continue drawing the same way forever. I've worked pretty damn hard to progress, and i would like to think my progress shows. I can take criticism too, but nobody bothers to give me any.
Long story short, the DeviantArt community was created so people could get CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM on their work. That is what dA is for, and if you don't like criticism, there are sites like Tumblr, where you will recieve no constructive criticism, and thus, your art will never improve.
Feel free to continue to lecture me on why your art is perfect and flawless, even though I'm only trying to be kind, helpful, and constructive by providing criticism to help you improve, since that is the reason this site exists.
Me: Wut? When did I lecture you? When/where did I ever say my art is perfect and/or flawless? (aside from joking about my amazing chess board.) I don't think I"m as good as the animators on any show, let alone Phineas and Ferb, but I DO think I draw Doof in the anatomical style that they created him.
There are many, many art sites to get constructive criticism, not just this one. There is also a button you can press here to REQUEST it. I did not press that button. I come here to meet other artists and fandom fans, share my love of the characters, see awesome art and share my own.
I work very hard on my art as well, and can also see a ton of improvement from when I started. I'm pretty sure I will continue to improve, even if I disagree with you on how Doof should be drawn.
I gotta say, your idea of 'kind, helpful and constructive' really comes off more as abrasive, ascerbic and defensive. I'm not trying to be funny or sarcastic here. If you truly want your advice to be taken to heart, you might want to be less condescending when you give it. I assume you're tyring to be funny, but that sort of tone is difficult to read over the internet.
Cheers.
Him:Excuse me if i happen to think "abrasive, ascerbic and defensive" more applies to your end of the argument.
I was trying to be polite before, but all you can seem to do is explain why YOUR drawing style requires no improvement. You seem to be incapable of improving or accepting any sort of criticism, and you should know full well that those without paid subscriptions cannot participate in the "critique" option. That is why the comments section exists, for constructive criticism to be allowed. If you really did not want constructive criticism, that being the point of this websute, you would DISABLE comments ON THE PIECE. There is plenty of room on your Profile Page for people to pat you on the arse for refusing to improve.
You are the one being condescending, abrasive, and rude, and I am only defending myself against someone who throws a bitchfit when I mention liking to watch an art style improve. If you are that touchy about your art, do not post it on a site where thousands of artists with different skill sets can see it, as well as the anatomical flaws.
You said "point out how I didn't follow this style", yet you linked me to a gallery in which Disney had actually drawn proper proportions of a human body, without overly long torsos and shoulder blades bent at a ninety degree angle from the too-thin ribcage that would crush all the organs.
You draw nothing like the people of Disney, and you should be ashamed for comparing your DRAWN PORN to the art style of a children's show, when they at least ATTEMPT to follow anatomy, unlike you.
In closing, stop throwing a fucking two year old fit when someone points out that your poorly censored bestiality porn isn't actually drawn well enough to warrant a comparison to the style of Phineas and Ferb, which, once again, is a children's show, and tries hard to keep the style simple enough for even small children to draw the characters. With such a simple drawing style that you are comparing yourself to, you should be absolutely ashamed that your grasp of anatomy is even worse than theirs.
This is where I realized that um yeah... I probably should have stopped talking like ... 6 comments ago, but yeah. *sigh* Why? Why do stupid trolls suck me in every time? And this is a person who has commented quite a few times on my art without talking out of his ass until now.
Go and look, if you like (although it's reposted verbatim here,) but please don't feed the trolls.

Date: 2011-11-24 04:07 am (UTC)The ad hominem attacks and reference to your behavior as a 'two year old fit' suggests someone who is neither familiar with two-year-olds nor reflective enough to understand what does and does not constitute a fit. The only fit I see being thrown is that by the commenter in that last ridiculous comment.
Are the DA servers located under bridges or something because that place seems to be teeming with trolls.

Date: 2011-11-24 04:53 am (UTC)Imo, you draw almost as well as the Phineas and Ferb people do, and you didn't request criticism. Therefore, he just felt he had to chip in with his two cents, even though if you had wanted it, you would have said so. God. What a dolt.
Unfortunately, you did feed the troll. You should know better. :P
And while he's talking about criticism, he didn't offer you any valid ways to improve. He just found things to nitpick. How much better is his "supposed art", anyway?
Then again, I know you didn't post this so everyone could go, "OMG, you're wrong. You're being a total asshat." XD

Date: 2011-11-24 06:06 am (UTC)And actually, I know I can totally count on my flist to tell me when I'm being a dumb jerk. (although I rarely need confirmation as such!)
I guess it was post it here, or ruminate on it all night. :D
BTW, his art is ... pretty crappy actually. I hadn't seen it before, but went to look when he was getting all high and mighty on me. Not that someone less skilled than me can't help me improve, but I DIDN'T ASK FOR YOUR CRIT. And even if I did, I am under no obligation to take it. especially when it's wrong. :D

FWIW you art is good. Although I may not always get the fandom (until later), I love looking at the skill you put into it.

And thank you! I"m certainly aware that there's lots of room for improvement, but uh ... yeah, not from THAT asshat. ;)

Not that I've done a limb-by-limb comparison, but your cartoons always look exactly like the show to me (except, of course, for the peen), and anyone who has seen your realistic work should have no cause to complain about your knowledge of anatomy.

My stuff isn't as good as the stuff on Phineas and Ferb, AND THAT'S WHY I DON'T WORK THERE! (well, that and a restraining order ...) ;p
