Remember when I talked about the poultry auction?? anyone? Well, we didn't get anything TOO exciting, a couple of chickens and some regular ducks, but we DID buy these two lovely African Geese.

They're quite cool, with that dinosaur head lump thingie, and they seem to get along with our other goose Dr. D.

And, of course, like everything else, they get lovely slashy fandom names. STEVE AND TONY! Tony is the one with the .... goatee thingie. Steve is a bit taller and much quieter. :D They didn't seem to want to sit for a photo though.

also? Quincey wanted to play Avengers with his friend at school. Quincey is Captain America, and decided he needed a shield. So we cut out a circle in some cardboard (great learning opportunity for him to see that freehand SUCKS and using something already round, like a pizza pan works muuuch better ..). I cut out the star and traced the circles for the stripes, but let the boys do the painting.

Then, for straps i just cut some sturdy ribbon and glue-gunned them on. It has held up quite well, deflecting nerf bullets like it's really made out of vibranium. ;) Sadly, we only had those crappy water colour dry disks for painting. I went to Micheals today and bought some tempura paints.

Then Quincey decided that he'd like Mjolnir. :D :D :D Seriously, there is a cosplayer in my just DYING to get out. I get way too much enjoyment from making silly props out of household items.
I got some dowels, hot glue gunned them together, wrapped them in little leather strips, then found a box from juice boxes, cut it down a bit and voila!

The main challenge was to attach the handle so that it would be sturdy, so I wrapped a blob leather to the top of the sticks, glue gunned it on, then glued THAT to the top of the box, then crammed the box full of old plastic bags, cut an x to push the handle through and whee! Mjolnir!! Here it is with one coat of (OMG STINKY) tempura paint on it.

It's hanging from the chandalier as it dries. ;)

One more coat of paint, a few more strips to re-inforce the handle, and we should be able to summon thunder! I'll touch it up with a bit of silver paint too (this is just grey).

Hopefully Quincey will be worthy to pick it up! ;)

BEST MOM EVER. And those geese are sidekicks worthy of any Avenger.

Are you going to Con.Txt, btw?

(ahaha, and I just noticed the Steve/Tony art in the background)

:D Yes, a little soft core porn for your enjoyment. ;)

Sadly no, I'm not going to contxt. I had planned to, and then four of the people that I had really wanted to see dropped out. *sad face*

So, I'm going to Lubricus instead. It's not multi-fandom, but it's really small, so I'm sure there will be lots of Sherlock/Avenger/otherslashystuff talk there too.

If YOU are going to con.txt, then now I am ripped off, as I'd love to meet you!

Oh, bummer! I decided to give it a try since I've never been to a con before, so I'm pretty excited. Just the name Lubricus sounds fabulous, so I'm sure you'll have a fun time. :)

Steve & Tony are cool! Tony wears his goatee well.
Most excellent shield & Mjölnir (loving the Steve & Tony artwork behind the Mjölnir). I think Quincey's going to have a fabulous summer!
Good lord! I love all your animals (you have fish too)! I'm digging your chandelier & the stained glass.

I love the geese. I imagine if you said something to them that they didn't like, they could just loll their heads and knock you senseless. Make sure you get a picture of that, please.

You are a kid's dream mother. No contest.

Thanks! I did not make the chandelier, but I DID make the stained glass.... in another life before having kids. :D I loved doing it, but it wasn't something I could just put down when the baby started crying, so pencil and paper seemed a better hobby. Plus, porny stained glass is much harder to make. ;)

And yes, OliverSnape is right. That's a terrarium. We have ... four of them, with five snakes. (man, I ALWAYS type Snape, not snake.)

Killer is, the thought of 'crafting' makes me think of old ladies and little kitten signs that sit in the garden. But like, make a toy or part of a costume? Now THAT is funtimez!!

They are surprisingly non-violent. Especially compared to Dr. Doof, who is not afraid to beat up the paddle boat and the wheelbarrow. ;)

Thanks! The auction is so fun! We tried to win some more peacocks, but were horribly out-bid. These geese were a great buy.

When I usually hear about animal auctions, they're for, um consumption. Was everyone there to buy these animals as pets? Why were they being auctioned? Was a pet owner getting rid of his pets?

Date: 2012-06-02 05:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com
Hee! No, none of these animals were for food. It is an exotic poultry auction, so peacocks, fancy ducks and crazy looking chickens, plus some bunnies and even a hamster or two. It's done through the 'Cluck and Quack' club, which is a small, manitoba poultry club.

They have a sale every fall and an auction every spring.
