Day 38 Steve/Tony art plus IRON MAN COSTUME!

Okay, it's not a costume per se, but I started on the helmet. For the record, I hate you [livejournal.com profile] accioslash.
Done with foam and a glue gun so far. It doesn't quite fit together yet because I have to paint the red and gold separately and don't want to glue them yet. I also had to put in a velcro closure because MY SON'S HEAD IS BIGGER THAN MINE! The helmet fits me (tightly) but won't even go on his giant pumpkin. ;)

Any and all credit for this thing turning out halfway decent is given to the internet, primarily xrobots.uk and the rpf costume site. Man, is there ANYTHING you can't find on the internet? I swear to god there is no less than 34985-3409284039583059 videos and sites on how to make an Iron Man costume. Huh! Who knew you could search for something that wasn't porn? (although, would it qualify if I make hubby wear this during sex when it's finished????)

And now more fluffy Steve/Tony art.

The helmet looks awesome, please post more wip pics.

I love the Steve/Tony piece. I think I love the hands the most.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty jazzed that the helmet is turning out well. It won't be as amazing as a lot of the stuff out there, but I'm just not a perfectionist like that. It really was pretty fun to make though.

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! Are you getting into cosplay now? This is awesome.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
No, not really. Honestly, it's more the CREATING that i enjoy. I guess, if I had peeps to cosplay with I'd be more into it, but aside from my kids, I don't really have anyone.

[identity profile] theficklepickle.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Wow - to both! Costuming has come on a long way from the days when I used to do it; this is a really sophisticated production and I can't wait to see the final result.

Plus I love your Steve and Tony...

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yeah, even less than a year ago, the way to make this helmet was out of paper, THEN you spackle it, sand it down, spackle again, sand again, repeat repeat repeat, until it was smooth, then prime and paint.

Foam is a MUCH better idea.

Wow! The helmet is amazing.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I"m looking forward to painting it.

Great job on the helmet! And LOL to the head.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I was totally shocked when he couldn't get it on! It not the helmet itself, but the small neck hole. I can get it on, but it's pretty tight, but yeah, no go for him.

thank god for velcro! ;)

[identity profile] clayangel.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw for the art. ^_^ Kind reminds me of Archie comics more than the style you've been doing as of late.

But DUDE. That helmet rocks! No matter where you got the pattern and whatnot, cutting that out and putting it back together must take skillz. I'm impressed.

I'm currently set to cosplay Darkwing Duck in a couple months, and I have no idea how to put that together.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yeah, the colour on this is 100% flat. No shadows or highlights. (aside from the crosshatching).

As for the costume, try this site: http://www.therpf.com/replica-movie-costumes/

I learned everything I know for the helmet there. Well, there and here: http://www.xrobots.co.uk/

[identity profile] demicus.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! That helmet looks fabulous! But please tell me you're going to be wearing a Steve Rogers costume rather than a Pepper Potts one when you're husband's wearing the Tony Stark ensemble. *smirk* Oh, & I'm sure your sweet pumpkin's gonna love the costume too.

Fluffy Steve & Tony sweet kiss is my favorite so far. The face touching is making me smile. Yes, I love this one.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Well, I TRIED to roleplay sex Chazz and Jimmy when we dressed up as the Blades of Glory guys a few years ago at halloween, but sadly, hubby, for all his tolerance of my slash habit is not 'into' that guy on guy thing. *sigh*

Perhaps superheros would change his mind.

[identity profile] demicus.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps superheros would change his mind." I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :¬)

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That helmet is incredible, very impressive!
And that art is yummy, very sweet. ;) *happy sigh*

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

The helmet has been a really fun challenge. Very outside of my usual stuff.

[identity profile] gmonkey42.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT IS SO COOL!

I may have missed it in an earlier post: what type of foam is this and where did you get it? How are you going to paint it, do you have to use primer first?

I may or may not be attempting a Lady!Thor Halloween costume for myself...

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, you didn't miss a post. I just tend to dead-head things. I pretty much got this far in the first day, then thought to take a pic of it.

It is about 7cm 'closed cell' foam, ie: fatigue mat foam. At first I bought the thicker stuff that sort of fits together like a puzzle, but it was much too thick for what i was trying to do. I bought it at Canadian tire. I'm sure Walmart or target or home depo would have something similar, although I did have to look around a bit for something that didn't have grip texture on both sides. (this just has it on one side.)

I primed it (as per interweb instructions) with white glue (like Elmers) two coats, and then I'll prime it with car paint primer and probably paint it with car paint, since it should be a nice shiny metalic colour.

Oooh, lady Thor would be great, and I think this type of foam would make really light, comfortable armour. You actually use a heat gun to warm it up and shape it!

That...! Helmet...! HOW?! Fantastic! I'm so speechless I have to take a minute before I can even comment on the beauty of the Steve/Tony. :D

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I"m pretty stoked with how it's turned out so far. Let's see if i can finish it without completely destroying it. :D

[identity profile] akemi42.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the art and the helmet!

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I"m not a cosplayer, so this has been fun!

[identity profile] ghost-eye.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Steve/Tony look so sweet together...

& I think that Iron man mask is coming together pretty good!

[identity profile] ghost-eye.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
(& do ignore that unfortunate choice of Icon in my above comment *facepalm* )

[identity profile] tlanti.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I really like the colours in that picture, and the texturing of the hair. It's an awesome picture, and it's the colours that are making me smile because they're cheerful! :)

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I was going to put them in a coffee shop, but the bg was just distracting, so I went with plain old red/yellow gradient.

[identity profile] maxdasuki.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I'm pissed off! ^^
First you made that Cap costume for your son, NOW this! GOSH! It looks awesome already! You are so talented...

and the art, it's adorable! Very nice!

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Don't hulk out on me!!!!

Thanks!

[identity profile] leoparda.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet! On both counts ;)

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!
