House art wip3 and 4

Sorry to spam the airwaves with a million WIPs! (at least I'm only posting them to my own journal and not, like, to 20 comms as well!

this will be the last one tonight, 'cause I've put down me pencil and I'm orf to bed!

does anyone know how to draw 'texture'.? specifically his scrubby beard? Leezard??? glock???? Hill????? Mieronna????? anyyyyyone?? I must admit that I'm askaird to even begin. I've done a bit of 'stache', but the rest is quite intimidating. I"m afraid to make it seem...scribbly.

Oh WOW you're so good! I'm sorry not to be of more hlep, but I don't work in pencil much and I'm really not sure the best way to go about a beard. But he does look terrific!

Is he just the *teeniest* bit wall-eyed to you? Something about the angle of his eyes bothers me a bit -- otherwise lovely pic, I hasten to add. (I should have said that first thing, but was too focussed on problem solving, Lol!)

Yes, he IS a bit walleyed. I plan to deepen the shadows around his eyes, and I think that will help. His eyes are also not the same size (sort of on purpose) but I also did one higher than the other (not on purpose) so we'll see if any of it's fixable. or at least...disguisable! :D

Okay, I have a bit more brain, and I have looked more at the piccy -- I think the texture you have used on the moustache is fine so why not continue with that? And the eyes; they look a bit out of wack because you only have one highlight in his right eye. While your photo reference probably only has one highlight there, you have to balance that 'truth' when you draw it as an artist. I don't always think of photos as neccessarily accurate, they just capture anything, including those freakish times when we look completely unlike ourselves.

I hope that all didn't come across as too prescriptive! %/ Please take it all with a grain of salt!

No! Not at all. I'm always hesitant to give con crit, but I actually love to get it. (well, at least from other artists!) And yes, yes, yes on the cameras lie thing. Reference photos are as evil as they are helpful!

Hi! Sorry I spammed you last night! I was a bit loopy and only found out why at 5am when I woke up with chills and fever. I'm still loopy (could be a permanent condition!) but I thought I'd pop in and say sorry for my inarticulate verbage.

I did the scrubby beard, and I think it turned out okay. Now I have to do his actual head hair...and I hate mid tone semi curly. Such is the curse of drawing Snape too much. I can do long, black and greasy, but short and curly is a challenge! ;D

Ooh, I agree that the texture used for the moustache can go for the entire beardly stubble thing. It looks great! I also don't work much in graphite, so I don't know that I can give concrit yet as I just think it looks marvelous. It really looks like Hugh!

thanks! I guess the stubble thing is just something I'll have to figure out as I go. I"m not looking forward to doing his hair either. I'm comfortable doing long blond and long black (greasy) but short and darkish and sort of curly??? grrrr
