Day 54 Question

a) have you ever bid on a 'fandom' auction or purchased a commission?

b) did you get what you paid for? Or did you get burned?

I bid on three different artists/writers in two different fandom auctions (ie. help_haiti and help_japan) and I got burned on all three. *grumpy face* Do I have particularly bad luck? Or are artists/writers just that unreliable?

As for commish: I've only bought two or three and have been very happy with the results of all. I've been ripped off on ebay once or twice, but over-all have had a positive experience.

I bid on a short story once (I think it was help_japan) and it was perfectly fine, but I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to do it again.

I've also commissioned art, although it was a long time ago. Every time the art itself was just what I wanted and I was very pleased with it, but two of the artists were absolute a-holes and really made me suffer along the way. It's a real rat's nest, IMHO, and unless you know the writer/artist already it can go horribly wrong.

Ha! I 'get' the a-hole thing. Artists are touchy, and non-artists can be demanding and not understand the 'craft', but the total non-delivery is what gets me hot under the collar.
