Last night, right around closing time a customer came in who was a bit flustered. I'm not sure where he was from (Turkey? Persia?) but due to a language barrier, I was a bit confused as to what he needed. He had a bird. A Chinese bird. His cage was broken.

Trying to figure out what type of bird he had, he said it was outside (in his car, I assumed) so I went out with him to see it. As it turns out, he had been taking it out of his car when the cage broke, so it got away. We went around the corner, and he points in some bushes beside a house. "There it is!!"

I look, and it's THIS type of bird.

Not exactly your typical pet budgie! I have two of these birds at home (Red Golden Pheasant) and they are pretty much impossible to catch, but I went back to the store and grabbed some large fish nets to give it the old college try. And of course, because I'm awesome like that I TOTALLY CAUGHT IT! :D

So, we're walking back to the store, me with this thing clutched to my chest, and the guy says, "They called animal services on me. I can't keep it. Do you want it?"

Uh ... okay. I can't keep him with my other ones, because the males will fight with each other, but we do have another enclosure that would be suitable so ... yeah! Why not?

The other ones are named 'The Malfoys', so I guess this one will be Draco. ;)

As an aside, the amazing Lubricus concom asked me to do the artz for the program, and requested a sleep-over time theme.

That's quite an adventure with the bird. You are awesome that you would catch it.

The picture is amazing fun. I love the colors and everyone's facial expressions.

thanks! Yes, it was very odd, and the few customers that were still in the store were like: WTF is THAT???? :D

They're not a rare bird, or anything, but they're not a pet, so many people have never seen them.

1) LOL great art :)

2) Why was the guy not allowed to keep the bird, but you can -- internet communication is so sterile, that doesn't sound anything but accusatory written out but that's not how I meant it! --? Is it because of a zoning thing or an abuse issue?

3) And that is a very exotic creature! Beautiful but wow...

Ugh, I wasn't clear, sorry! No, it was a zoning thing. He lived in the city, and these are not 'pets' per se. I think they are technically considered poultry. They certainly shit as much as a chicken. ;)

I live outside the city, so its not an issue for me. And yes, they really are a striking animal.

Yes, well, we've never had a Draco here, so it's about time. ;)

OMG, what is wrong with me that I am enthralled with the Dumbledore/Hagrid so much that I completely bypassed the Snarry? It's true; Dumbledore is my real 'little black dress' in HP porn.

It's an age thing. You might want to get your glasses checked. ;)

That's a great pic!

I think that's one lucky bird! What're the chances of it getting loose, its owner finding your shop, you actually catching it, and then getting to keep it?!

No kidding! The odds of it working out were def a bit slim, but he's okay now, wondering Where the Fuck did all these damn chickens come from???

Hmmm (looks around shiftily), I wonder what they taste like. NO, not the chickens.

I'm getting vibes that you did not behave yourself in Seattle. EXCELLENT WORK!

Well, I've never eaten pheasant, but people do!

and GOD NO! Of course I didn't behave. Lucky (or not) for you, DJ followed me around like paparazzi the whole time, so there's lots of proof of said mis-behaving.

I still haven't seen any of the photos from last year.

...the hell is that? Also, my cat is very interested in the photo of it. I'm also certain he thinks he can 'take it'.

Just artistic curiosity here, but have you ever thought of/tried doing artworks of your colorful exotic chickens?

Date: 2012-08-22 04:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com
Nope! ;) Well, I drew this: http://tripperfunster.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72#/d3k7z41

but that's about it. I guess, since I spend my days around animals I have no desire to draw them?

ha! tickle-art is fun.
Also, your life is like a book to me... how do these things happen to you?? That bird is beautiful, though.

That's a beautiful bird! Interesting tail! I SO wish I could own a pet, but the only thing I'm not allergic to is a bunny or a horse. No home for a horse and I don't know the first thing about owning a rabbit or rabbit breeds. :/ Birds are so lovely and I recently met some very exotic and chatty birds, but, allergic to feathers. Looks like hand puppets and Ninten:Dogs for me. :/

Your Hogwarts dogpile would look awesome on a giant nightshirt, btw. :)

How about a snake or a lizard?

And yes, it WOULD make a great nightshirt!

I thought you were supposed to be *selling* pets at your store rather than taking them in. Do they do things differently in Canada? *iz confused*

I love that pic SO HARD!

Actually, we take in a lot of animals! Not usually birds, because they can make each other sick quite easily, but we do rescue/rehoming of dogs/cats and a surprising amount of lizards, and the odd rabbit and guinea pig.

I didn't think it was possible for you to rise on my "cool" meter, because you are pretty damn high on it. But you just went up higher. That's incredibly awesome.

Only you could catch a bird with a fishing net! I suppose you catch fish with your bare hands? Impressive, very impressive!

Delightful sleepover theme! Thank goodness Hagrid's on the bottom. I think his & Dumbledore's beards belong together. *nods* Severus looks pleased to be 'over' Dumbles for once, & Harry looks like he can't believe his luck. *smirk* Don't tell me, what happens in sleepover, stays in sleepover. LOL!

I catch fish with a hook! DUH! ;)

With the giant smiles in that pic, I'm thinking there's some sort of roofee type drug use happening. ;) Most of them won't know what hit them in the morning.
