So ... My step- father was asking a bit about my art, and I had only brought a brand new art pad with me, (with a porntastic ghey tony/Steve as the one and only art in there!) so I grabbed the iPad and brought up a couple of pics.

I show him and my mother my Avengers banana art, and my mother's only comment?

"So, you ruined an entire bunch of bananas?"

*sigh*

Why do I even bother?

My step-dad was much more complimentary btw.

Ughhh am sorry about your mom not getting it. Perhaps someday, she will. One can hope, right?

At least your step-dad chimed in!

I fucking loved your banana art, btw.

Thank you! Yeah I thought the banana thing would be right up her alley. It's gen, it's realistic type faces ( not marvel comics) and its different.

Nope. I would chalk it up to her not being artistic/creative at all, but I know LOTS of peeps who don't contribute, but who enjoy.

I used to be the lead singer in a rock/pop band, and she could never see it as anything but 'too loud.'. *eyeroll*

Haha, I wish you could've known my mom. She'd be front row, smiling and nodding her head if I ever decided to sing in a band (thank god for everyone's ears that's never happened). I do hope your mom's knee jerk reaction gives way to support for your creativiity.

Also, I find it incredibly sexy that you sang in a band! AWESOME!

*hugs*

Sounds like your and my mom would get along just fabulously. Does yours do the charming 'it's cool when someone else does it, but not when you do it' thing too? i.e. it's awesome if she found it (made by a stranger) on the internet but not when you show it/did it?

Not really. Maybe if someone else's daughter drew something nice for the CHURCH or something? I don't know. She just cannot foster even FAKE interest in something that she doesn't care about, obviously.

Hey, I have some of your art hung in my guest bedroom that I would be delighted to share with them....

But 'Sphincter Lickin' Good' is all mine and they will have work hard to hide their jealousy.

My step-dad would probably laugh his ass off at that. :D

LOL....

you should have just showed her the porn, maybe she would have appreciated it better....and you didn't ruin any bananas doing it ;)

I did actually show them the one porn pic! (I have no shame). But I thought she'd like the bananas.

WRONG

Sounds like you should have gone with the porn. :-(

Hee! I actually DID show them the porn! But I thought she would appreciate something gen. Nope.

Maybe if you told her you made banana bread she would have understood. *rolls eyes* She sounds just like my aunt -- if things aren't "useful" (for her tiny tiny definition of the word) they have no purpose.

The only question that BOTH of my parents ask about my art is if I can sell it. Do I sell it? Why don't I sell it? I should sell it! *grumble*

I have a job! It's not like anyone pays my mother to watch tv or my dad to spend thousands of hours on the golf course. Why is my hobby only legit if I make money from it?

This my dad who says this btw, not my step-dad.

My family does this all the time. Like I'm not supposed to draw something for myself or just for fun.

Exactly! And they can't see how THEIR hobbies don't make them any money. (and they shouldn't ... that's why they're called HOBBIES.)

Having parents who are similar (particularly the maternal biological unit) I often wonder, "If we can divorce spouses, why can we not divorce parents?"

From: [identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com
Well, lots of people do. (not legally, of course ..)

I dunno, my parents aren't HORRIBLE, they're just kind of shitty.

Your mom reminds me of my mom. :P

The most ludicrous incident I can think of is this one time I made clam chowder. When I asked if she liked it, the response I got was something like: "It wasn't clammy enough." When asked to explain this, the answer was "There wasn't a clam in every bite." *headdesk*

Ahaha! yes! I think my mother would appreciate that I actually made soup for her (because that is infinitely more practical than drawing for fun) but she would not be happy that i gave her the wrong spoon to eat it with, and that I chose the wrong bowl, and that I needed to clean them out properly before putting them in the dishwasher. (the correct way, of course ...)

Some people just don't 'get' beautiful banana art. I showed my mom, by the way, & she thinks they're amazing! And we're still fighting over who gets the gorgeous beaded Kirk/Spock. Heh, heh, I've got it right now. Score!
