Please excuse the fact that most of these movies are for kids. I have no choice, although, I did see tons films like these BEFORE I ever gave birth. ;)

Here comes the Boom I would hit Kevin James SO GODDAMNED HARD that this review might be a bit skewed. This movie is super typical of many of his movies. Underachiever but good guy manages to pull his weight and become a really great guy and get the girl. NO suprises, but DUDE I TOTALLY FUCKIN' LOVED IT ANYWAY! *flails* And watching him get the shit beat out of him did nothing to quell my wicked thigh sweats.

Dark Shadows Tim Burton. Why? Why do you make quirky movies that SEEM like they will be good, but they rarely (or never) are? Would you like to know why? BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Just because someone is quirky doesn't mean they don't need to grow.

Diary of a Wimpy kid (dog days?) Okay, this film sucked, but actually sucked a bit less than the first two. (which sucked in ways that even the internet cannot fathom) The main kid is really kind of .. trolly looking? And that bothered me. (yeah, it's not his fault, but i can still be distracted by his ... odd little troll body). His older brother, although barely legal is pretty damn sexy. Over all, these movies are time I will NEVER get back.

ParaNorman Meh. Not horrible, but really didn't do anything for me or my kids. They do have a very non stereotypical gay guy which was nice, but not nice enough to save the film.

Hotel Transelvania Better than ParaNorman, but not much. No surprises and too much emphasis on Oh look at the cool monsters we created!. At least there was character development.

Hunger Games Whut? Really? This was what all the hype was about? I don't get it. It was a perfectly okay film, but I thought it would be OMG AMAZING and it was omg okay. I will have to assume that the books are WAY better.

Taken (the first one, not part two that's out right now.) When hubby started playing it, I was at the computer, and had to roll my eyes at how one dimensional the characters were. Bitchy ex-wife, vacant teenage daughter, etc. But once the action began WOW! I'm not sure that the dialogue got much better, but the movie was really, really gripping. Totally did not expect to like it.

Any movie reccs out there?

Over the weekend I saw Man on a Ledge and 21 Jump Street and loved them both.

Man on a ledge? Is that old or new? (It's not directed by Guy Madden, is it? Because that movie is ODD.)

It is new, stars Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell and an extremely creepy Ed Harris.

Re: Boom - damn! I may have to watch this now!

Re: Hunger Games - yes, the books are MUCH better. I actually didn't mind the film but I expected it to be terrible.

Recommendation: Looper. A little brutal and bloody but a good story.

Ooh, yes, Looper is pretty much the only movie on right now that I'm interested in seeing. Kid A loves violent, shoot-em-up films like Die Hard, but Kid B is the Diary of Wimpy kid loving boy. They're only a year apart, but have VERY contrasting tastes in films.

And yes to Boom. He really looks amazing shirtless. I had fears of MOOBS, but he's really nicely build for a big dude. rawr!

Dark Shadows always looked like a travesty to me, and a spit in the fact of the original series, so I steered away from it. Nothing anyone has said has made me feel that wasn't the right choice. :P

I haven't seen Paranormal yet, but I heard it was good. I still plan on seeing it, but not in theatres.

I DID see Hotel Transylvania in the theatre, and I really liked it. Overall, yeah, the story and characters were nothing special. I think I was so pleased with it because I found it a lot funnier than I expected it to be.

Hunger Games—read the books. The first movie, while a good and faithful adaptation, leaves out all of the main character's inner monologue, which, while understandable, kind of changes the whole feel of the thing. The movie also moves a lot quicker than the book (again, understandable, however...) which means that a LOT gets cut out. Things like the fact that Katniss went for a day and a half without water and was practically dead before she found any. A large chunk of what went down in the cave was taken out, which was important character development for both her and Peeta. The injuries she sustained were downplayed, her relationships with her family weren't gone into as well as in the book, and basically, like I said in the beginning—READ THE BOOK. It sat on my shelf for almost a year before I got around to reading it, but once I did, I immediately went straight to the second book, I loved it so much, and then to the third. I found the movie okay. Just okay. I only saw it once, as opposed to almost any HP movie or Star Trek or Megamind. Read the book.

Oh, and I saw Looper over the weekend, too. Wasn't as impressed with it as I expected to be, but it was okay. I'd see it again one day.

I saw ParaNORMAN not Paranormal. One is a cartoon, one is a scary movie.

I didn't hate Transylvania, I just didn't love it. It could have been better, but I didn't really care enough to figure out why.

As for Dark Shadows, ... (which I actually thought was the Batman movie!!), I don't think I've enjoyed (like REALLY enjoyed) a Tim Burton movie since Edward scissor hands.

Right, yes. I meant Paranorman. ^_^ I do want to see Paranormal Activity 4, too, but I meant the other one.

I completely agree about Tim Burton. I feel like I'm supposed to love him because practically everyone I know worships him, but I've never been that impressed—ESPECIALLY when you pair him up with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. I'm happy for them and the creepy little threesome they have going on, but I can't think of once where I've cared for a movie that all three of them were involved. I tend to like them all on their own, but at this point, Tim Burton just has Johnny Depp playing the same character over and over and over again. I didn't like it the first time, and I don't like it now.

Edward Scissorhands is the only Tim Burton I really loved, however... In the last two weeks I got to see both Hotel Transylvania, and Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. Yes, I have a 10 year old son. Anyway, Frankenweenie was so much better than Hotel Transylvania. According to my son, and my ex-to-be who've seen it twice, it's the sort of movie that has so many little funny things in it, that you're still picking things up the second time around. I've also heard it's better if you've seen more of the old black and white horror films.

"Hunger Games" wasn't exactly bad but no it didn't wow me either. I thought it was lame compared to "Battle Royale".

I totally agree with you regarding "DarK Shadows". IMO Tim Burton has lost his magic years ago but he tries very desperately to recapture it. I am not planning on watching "Frankenweenie" because I own the orginal short, which is on the special edition of "Nightmare before Christmas". N

No. Frankenweenie did not appeal to me (or my kids) at all. Maybe one day on video.

Dark Shadows could have been so good, and then it wasn't and I was disappointed. >.>

The Posession: This was good and creepy but a little slow for me. I really liked Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Natasha Calis.

House At the End of the Street: I didn't expect to like this so much, but I really did. I read/watch a lot of horror and suspense so it's hard to surprise me, but this one did.

Lawless: This is generally not my kind of movie, but my boyfriend really wanted to see it (and I miiiight owe him from making him watch Avengers and Earth's Mightiest Heroes repeatedly). I really liked it. The acting was amazing, the story sucked me right in, and I think I'm in love with Tom Hardy.

Mostly I've been watching Dr. Who and Sherlock lately. I might have a new ship or three.

I love horror movies, but my hubby doesn't, and the kids are still too young. *sigh*

I really need a zombie movie buddy. ;)

DISSENTING VOICE STRIKES: I read The Hunger Games and just could not love it because of the first-person teenage girl angst-narrative. So when I saw the film and didn't have to deal with that first-person narrative voice I liked it MUCH better. I know, I am alone. ^_^

I read and liked the movie for the Hunger Games, but I also am not wowed. I thought it was a nice movie, maybe one of my favorites that year, but nothing more than that.

I'm too scare to watch Taken but I LOVE Liam and like to see gifsets from the film of him being all determined and hot. :) I've loved him since Star Wars and Love Actually, and was surprised to see him do horror films.

Kevin James cracks me up. I even liked the stupid zoo keeper movie. I definitely want to see Boom!

Taken wasn't a horror movie. More of an action flick. Of course, it would HORRIBLE to deal with that shit in rl, but there were no supernatural entitites, just a lot of asshole men treating girls like shit. And Liam, kicking ass and taking names. ;)

Zookeeper was okay. That scene of them singing "Apple Bottom Jeans' in the van was COMEDY GOLD!
