Two Line (mostly) Movie Reviews.
Jul. 13th, 2013 12:35 pmThere might be a couple of spoilers, but nothing huge, just mostly what I liked or didn't about the films.
Star Trek Into Darkness
It was okay. There was lots to like, and a few WTF?s, but mostly a good action movie. I was hoping it would be OMGSOFUCKINGAWESOME like the last one, but nope. It was just good.
Iron Man 3
See above. Pretty good action movie (kind of typical Marvel movie??) but not nearly as inspiring or full of heart as the first one. But better than the second one, I think.
World War Z
Okay, it's been quite a few years since I'd read the books, but NOT ONE THING twigged in as something I'd read from the book. *shrug* It was still a pretty enjoyable movie.
Good Day to Die Hard
Meh. Exactly what you'd expect, but less fun than some of the others
Grownups 2
Who the fuck lets Adam Sandler loose on a set with no script? For reals. This movie had quite a few funny moments, but like ... ZERO direction. It was like .... I know 100 funny people, so I'm going to put them all in this movie, plot be damned! There really were some sweet, touching and funny moments, but not nearly enough to make this movie good. The first movie was much better. I really loved the way they all zinged each other all the time, it really reminded me of my days of playing in a band. Too bad the second film didn't hold up.
Despicable Me 2
Pretty good and cute. Minions were funnier in this one, I think, but not as good as #1.
Two Headed Shark Attack
ahahahahahahahha! So bad. So, so bad. Carmen Electra. That is all.
Hansel and Gretel... witch hunters??
This one COULD have been good, but oddly, ... I don't know, there was gratuitious blood and swearing, and while neither of those things really bothers me, they both felt out of place here. I'm pretty sure people didn't have the same swear words 160 (or more?) years ago. Not to mention, people have BONES, they don't generally just squish out gallons of blood when hit, like they're some sort of blood infused sponge just waiting to be squeezed.
Epic
This one was really beautifully done, although had a very typical frame to the story. I think, if I'd seen this when I was 12, I would have loved it beyond belief. Riding hummingbirds? COOL!
Oblivion
I really REALLY did not want to see this movie, but was dragged along by hubby. It was actually Not Too Bad. Much better than I had expected, anyway. It's sort of plugged as an action movie, but is really more of a sci-fi/fuck with your head kind of flick.
Monsters University
I really enjoyed this one. I didn't love the first Monsters flick, but thought it was okay. A few years ago my son decided he liked it, and I've since watched it quite a few times, and have grown to like/appreciate it a lot more. I think that's why I enjoyed seeing the 'backstory' in this one unfold.

Date: 2013-07-14 02:10 am (UTC)We seem to have similar opinions about the films I've seen on this list, so I'm confident we'll love Monsters.
