Well, me and the kids are off to Toronto. My step-dad passed away yesterday.

It wasn't a surprise, he'd been having trouble breathing, and was on oxygen for the past couple of months, but his decline was rather fast, and yesterday just couldn't hold out anymore.

Jack was a super great guy. Even though he came late into our lives, the 9 or so years we spent with him were a gift. He was a grandfather to my kids in a way that my own dad could/would never be, he was kinder to me, and more interested in my life that either of my parents ever were, and he was a better, kinder and more loving husband to my mom that my dad ever was.

You will be missed, Jack. By all of us.

Any Toronto peeps up for a cup of coffee sometime this week?

Honestly, I think it does. Of course, they are still gone, but there is something to be said about saying your goodbyes and being prepared.

My mother was handling it much better than I'd thought. It was a lovely service.
