Wow. Sometimes, I just can't make shit. :D

I had a pumpkin left over from October that I hadn't carved, and it was still in good shape, so I hacked away at it and probably made the worst carving of everything I did this year. Like, not even lame enough to post. meh

I also wanted to make a 'Viking Helmet' for myself. I cannot do this. For reals. I bought some metallic looking vinyl to make the 'body' of the helmet and .... I suck! I did a pattern out of paper first, to get the 'shape' of it right, and it looked like something that the Pope might wear. Much too tall and skinny. So I fattened it out, but the vinyl is so stiff, that when you turn it back to have the right side face out, the seams don't really release, and it looks like bad origami.

So then I tried a hot glue gun for the seams, and it turns out that glue won't stick to the vinyl! And here, I thought I'd make the base and then glue the horns and other decorations all over it, and that won't even work. *sad face*

I guess I need to find another medium. I'm thinking foam, but I used all my foam for Q's Pacific Rim costume.

Tell me, fine flist, about your recent fails.

I'm sure you're not going for historical accuracy here... but the vikings never had horns on their helms. I get mildly upset when I see all the plastic viking helmets with horns at Islendingadagurinn for the tourists. *sigh*

I have many many art fails. The worst one had very unfortunate timing as it was my first attempt at my Thesis in sculpture. NOT the project you want to have utterly fail, but boy did it ever. I ended up dropping that course (I've never dropped a course in my life), took the next year off school and went to Ireland instead, and then finally came back and finished my Thesis with a totally different project. Oi.

No, I am going for goofy and over the top, not accurate. :D

We've joked that our 'Viking Surprise' had better not be historically accurate, as getting raped and pillaged might not be so fun.

Historically, Viking Surprises did not end well for the surprisees!

That is hilarious (and horrible) about your thesis! i think a year in Ireland sounds like way more fun that school.
