Step 2 of the Spn stained glass window and a question ...

Most of the glass is cut and I even PAINTED SOME OF IT!! Man, it was really hard to work with! You basically have to paint everything all in one layer, because it looks all streaky and weird if you go back over it again.

Here's the un-fired glass pieces:


Those little yellow banana looking things are going to be Cas' halo. It extends past his little skinny frame, so it ended up being like 8 pieces. These painted pieces will now get fired in a kiln, and the paint powder will fuse with the glass. Next step will be to paint them again, with a water wash to make the shading. This coat was just the bold, black lines.

Now the question … at the bottom of the panel, there is going to be three 2 inch circles, plus two half circles. The pattern is here if you'd like to see. The bottom's not well drawn in yet, because I didn't have the little bevel things, so I didn't draw then in completely. Anyhoo, I was thinking of painting on the bevels too, but I"m not quite sure what to put.

My thoughts are: The anti-posession tattoo that the boys have,
The angel banishment sigil,
The demon killing knife,
A raven
The impala (hard!!!)
Dean's necklace

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

As a funny little aside: The place where I buy my glass, and where I took this stuff to get fired is owned by a very religious couple. I was DREADING having them freak out because I'd painted a pentacle on the large circle. Lucky for me, they took one look at all the pieces and said "Hey! Looks great!" *phew*

The list you have is logical - the tattoo, angel sigil and Dean's amulet would go well in a circle, while the knife would fit into a semi circle...not sure about how Baby would fit in the design though, and ravens aren't a symbol the show uses (though they are so cool). How many symbols/items are you looking for?

In later seasons the Aquarian Star has significance, so you might want to add that somewhere. You could put in a red rose for Samifer.

I can't wait to see how this turns out, what a fabulous idea. I did a week's summer school trying out stained glass making but we never got as far as painting and colouring. We each made a panel about 18 inches by 12 inches and that was hard enough. It turned out ok and I thought the leading was actually much easier than the cutting!

I took a stained glass course 15 years ago and really enjoyed it, but eventually got pregnant and since it's not really a hobby for pregnant women or those with young children, it really fell by the wayside and I hadn't touched it for almost 11 years until GISHWHES this year.

The item was a stained glass window of a CW character, and I chose Castiel, I hadn't even seen the show yet, but figured that sucking up to Misha couldn't hurt, right? One taste of stained glass and I was hooked again! Then I got to thinking that a painted window would really look cool with the whole quasi-religious themes of the show.

I thought of Ravens because one of the first seasons used them in the intro. And like you said, they're cool. ;) I"ll check out the Aquarian star. I assume it's the two inverted triangles, almost like an 'A' inverted on another 'A'?

I can't make a red rose, because the paint only comes in blacks and browns. I also have no idea who Samifer is. Almost sounds like a horrible name smash! :D

Thanks for the advice. And yes, I really enjoy the soldering, way more than the cutting.

Ah no red is a bit of a bummer - the other flower that has some significance in later seasons is a red carnation (you'll see Crowley is holding one in some of this season's promo pictures, in one pic it's a flower in the others it's burning)

This is SO cool. I love your design. I vote for the 'The angel banishing sigil' as it would go well with the theme of a church windows. Do put pics up as you go through the stages.

Oh WOW this is such a pretty idea, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

I don't really have any thoughts about the bottom panel, but I'm sure whatever you pick will turn out awesome, it already looks amazing. :D

It is going to be moth-wateringly awesome! The way you painted the faces is amazing - and yay for banana-shaped haloes (is there some subtext in this?)
I wish I was able to create something like this:)

My two cents: yest to the tattoo, the banishing sigil and Dean's amulet. If you aim at symmetry, the knife could be matched by the colt (probably easier than the Impala).
I'm not sure about the raven - maybe the rings of the four horsemen (the key to Lucifer's cage) or a bowl of salt, or something written in Enochian (maybe the initials of their names).

Man, I REALLY wanted to incorporate salt here, but … yeah. Nothing ATTRACTIVE comes to mind! Plus the paint is black, so white salt would be very difficult. I even thought of using the symbol for salt, but NaCl is just … lame. ;)

first of all, this is going to be amazing when you're done. the painting already looks fabulous.

the front of the impala might fit in a circle, as if she was driving into the frame but not completely. (that makes sense, right?) so you'd see enough to recognize her. altho i don't know if it would look off-balance compared to the other two circles, which i'm guessing are going to have symbols completely inside the frame. maybe something to represent her, like the little plastic army men or something. she's such a constant on the show and in the boys' lives, it seems wrong to leave her out. plus, as i was never a big fan of all the angels and demons and end-of-the-world biblical stuff, the metallicar is a nice reminder that there's other aspects to the show.

actually now that i look at the pencil design again i think the impala might work in one of the corners on the bottom, kind of pulling into the picture from outside the frame. maybe.

then the other circles could have the tattoo and dean's amulet, and i like kalime80's idea of balancing the colt with the demon-killing knife.

I do like the idea of the impala, but I"ll just have to see if it will fit, and/or if I can draw it small enough to fit in a 2" circle. Sadly, the sigils make a bit more sense, as they're mostly round.

I did look up the symbols of Supernatural, via google, but I just thought that other people might have some ideas that I hadn't thought of yet.
