Most of my painted stuff fired okay, except the large red circle that I'd painted and then scratched out the devil's trap on. It was supposed to be a bit of a focal point in the window, but I found out (rather belatedly) that red glass often doesn't fire well. It's basically a big black circle now. ;) They gave me the option of buying some OMG expensive antique glass that tends to fire better, but yeah … $50 circle is just not gonna happen.

I'll just use amber instead. Little bits of the "Non timebo mala" bubbled a bit, and part of Sam's hair is a bit off, but over-all, aside from the red/now black circle, it turned out pretty good for my first go.

Here's all of the pieces together. I picked up the round bevels today, so I could finally cut the glass to go around them.

Next step is to paint the big devil's trap and small bevels, then paint the shading on the boys and their clothes.

I am excite!

Thank you! I WILL look good, if only for the fact that even really crappy stained glass still looks pretty good. It's such pretty medium that it's very forgiving. (thank god!)

Hopefully this will turn out really well!

It's just gorgeous! Do you know where you're going to display it when it's done?

I have NO IDEA where I'll put it. We have lots of windows in our house, so I'll find someplace for it. I'd like the kitchen window, but we'll see.

I found the same problem with firing red glaze on ceramics, it can be a very hit and miss affair as to whether it will work apparently. (I was firing a 55 Bel Air for my son, and hoping for the chrome glaze not to go black too, both worked :D)

I cant wait to see this finished!

what do you think the final cost will be?

On my last project I was very disappointed to find that pink stained glass is pretty much non-existent. *shrug*

So far this one is: $20 copper foil
$16 lead patina (I won't use nearly the whole bottle, but I was out)
$20 to print out the pattern (It SHOULD have been about $3, but there was a misunderstanding at Staples, and they did it on thick, poster paper.)
$10 for the paint
$10 for some new paintbrushes
$10 for the last firing, and probably $10 for the next one

It will probably be $15 for the aluminum frame and $20-40 for the lead.

All of the glass is stuff I already had around the house, (hoard much?), so this one will be pretty cheap. I would guess that there's around $100 is glass, if it was all bought new. Not a cheap hobby.

I'm really impressed. Shame about the red circle, but it seems you're adaptable!

It IS a shame! I had painted the circle very dark, and then had scratched off the paint so that the pentacle showed through. Except not, obviously.

Yeah, I have no idea how other people function if they're unable to roll with the punches!
