Cut from a peacock tail feather, and the wings are from the decorative fronds of the tail, plus a few neck feathers too.

This looks amazing, but Cas appears to have his head on backwards (or maybe he's impersonating an owl?) :P But in all seriousness, I can't even imagine how you made him look so close to real using feathers! Fantastic work!

This is stunning! I'm just wowed by this. Feathers are so beautiful and odd in themselves, and the fact you can manipulate them like this astonishes me. I really love the way you've used the peacock fronds and the contrast between the soft movement of those parts and the precision of the figure. The shading on Cas is fascinating to me... how did you manage that? I'm sorry I keep asking loads of questions but I've never seen anything like it :D

This is gorgeous. What do you cut with?

Thank you! I wish I'd had more 'neck' ones, the bright semi-circular green ones. Oh well, I have all the time in the world to collect them now!

I'm not seeing the backwards head thing, but I'll take your word for it. And thanks. I think this is one of those crafts where it actually looks a lot harder than it is. *shrug* Making the wings took way longer than cutting the silhouette!

No problem! Questions are good!
There is no shading on Cas, it's just a straight silhouette, but the the … reflectiveness of the feather is what (I think) you're seeing.

Getting him dark enough and the feathers bright enough to show the colours was pretty much impossible. If it was too light, you couldn't see him properly, and too dark just masked those gorgeous reflective shades! I must have taken 40 pictures in 10 different places, but none of them got the actual effect I was looking for. Sad that my photography skills are holding back my art!!

Just a craft knife. Ex-acto brand. The typical pointy, triangular shaped blade with the silver handle. I'd love to try something more … detail oriented, but I've not found anything finer to cut with. Any ideas?

I think it's the feather's core that makes it look (to me) like his profile is turned further than it should be able to. Or it's my eyes going sideways as I squint at art in the dark when I should be asleep. :P

The wings are stunning!
