4 layer paper cut portrait

I went fairly simple on this one, to dip my toe in the water, so to speak. And because I"m awesome, I took some Wip shots! It's so funny how this medium is like … nothing … nothing …OMG I TOTALLY SEE IT!

For paper, I went to Micheals and bought these 12x12 scrapbooking sheets. They were on sale 3 for a buck, so I went to town and spent FOUR WHOLE DOLLARS! And now I need to go back and buy more, because I want a larger range of colour. I could totally be an art-supplies hoarder. Someone call A&E!

Instead of white as the base layer, I used beige.

The black really makes it pop, eh? Please note that inside my china/curio cabinet you see no china. But if you look closely, you can see Sulu, Iron Man and Thor. Not pictured are Megamind, Doofenshmirtz and Bender. ;)papermisha
And here he is with a shitty photoshopped background. Thanks for looking!

Actually, I think it looks better in the photo. Amazeballs, BTW!!

And Yay for Doofenshmertz!

Yeah, he ended up really orange in the finished picture. Oops!

And yes, I loves my Doof! <3

You are so brilliant at negative space! I Immediately add about 300 points to someone's IQ when they can do that, because I just don't see how. And maybe I'm outing myself as being spectacularly challenged, perception-wise, which is not entirely unlikely, but basically, what you do has me worshiping at your feet, even if I'm not necessarily in your fandom.

- All I know from Supernatural is knowing folks like you online, and I am in complete awe with the talent (and snark!) expressed in this fandom.

Well done!

I'm pretty new to the fandom myself. I just started watching it this year, due to Gishwhes. (Misha's scavenger hunt.)

The fandom seems a bit … intense, but they def have the best gifs! :D

Negative space is something you continually learn about, and it certainly doesn't add anything to you IQ! (maybe your ART IQ?)

Very cool! I've always wants to try that...! *in awe*

Do eet! It's amazingly quick. (hence my Million+1 posts in the last two weeks.)

Wow! That's so wonderful.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! A tad addicting, me thinks!

[identity profile] amberdreams.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Awesome! You are most a cleversome person. *bows to your knife cutting skill*

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Cleversome. LOVE IT!

THIS FASCINATES ME.
I thought about trying something like this years ago, with colored posterboard or something, but never got around to making an attempt.

Keep up the cutting!

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Posterboard might be harder to work with, I"m not sure. It's pretty strong, but it kind of …falls apart easily too? This paper almost feels like vinyl, and doesn't tear easily. (thank god!)
Here's a how-to vid, if you're interested. Someone on devArt linked me, and it helped me get my brain around the what/when/where.

what link? i wanna try!!

I suck. Here it is: http://www.dudecraft.com/2009/11/papercut-portraits-tutorial.html

[identity profile] zsomeone.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Link is not there, but I'm curious.

Yeah posterboard's a pain in the ass, but I used to do a lot of black marker art and that will make most paper warp so I used posterboard so that's what I always had around. Mostly that was just slicing out specific rectangles for the pic I was doing though, straight cuts with a ruler.

I keep trying to motivate myself to make stuff again (even did gishwhes this year) but it's hard.
Me to brain- You have all this crap to make stuff out of, make something!
Brain- Meh.

It comes and goes.

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2014-10-02 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
What did you think of Gishwhes? How did your team do?

Link is here: http://www.dudecraft.com/2009/11/papercut-portraits-tutorial.html Sorry about that! I do the same with emails, talk about the attachment, and then forget to put it in!

[identity profile] zsomeone.livejournal.com 2014-10-02 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a cool vid! I learned lots, I had no idea how it was actually done.

(Switching to pm to answer the rest, hope you don't mind)
