Stained Glass WIP
May. 6th, 2015 07:33 pmYay! My kiln finally arrived!! It's still a painfully slow process. It takes 2 1/2 hours for it to heat to the paint firing temperature (on purpose, so the glass doesn't get shocked) and then about 4 to 5 hours for it to cool down enough to take the glass out. (again, on purpose). All the while, I dance from foot to foot with excitement and impatience.
Painting is done on this one (I've already started on another), and now I've finished tacking it all together. Tomorrow I will finish the leading and attach the frame and I'm done!!!!! I still need A LOT of practice with the face/skin but I'm looking forward to learning moar and moar.

Sorry for the poor picture quality. It's really hard to photograph something while you're holding it!

the detail on the face and hands is remarkable, especially the hair. It all looks very three dimensional!

Date: 2015-05-07 03:25 am (UTC)Granted, these people are professionals, and are lovely and helpful, but they are actual ARTISANS where I feel like a chimp with a crusty paint brush. *sad trombone*
Don't get me wrong, I see my improvement over each piece, and am determined to improve even more, but WHY CAN'T I BE GREAT WITHOUT TRYING? :D

Date: 2015-05-07 01:09 pm (UTC)I yell this every time I sit down to animate something. I mean, I can draw, why can't I just magically make the drawings move like I want them to, it can't be that hard?!
But seriously, this seems like a really tough medium with a high learning curve and no second chances if you fuck up on your first try. I know you've been at this for a little while, but it's not your primary medium and that you've gotten this far with it even just dabbling, is really impressive.
Cut yourself some slack. Although, I completely get it. I feel that way every time I post to dA where there are a ton of great artists doing full color digital work and all I have are my pathetic paper scribbles. Chimp with a pencil, indeed.
