Hee! I guess I should have warned for Indiana Jones spoilers, but uh ... I'm talking about the OLD ones! My kids HATE movies. They refuse to go to the theatre (they are 5 and 6) and rarely want to watch them on DVD.(other than Spongebob and Scooby-doo) Don't get me wrong, we don't eat hemp and live in a Yert! They eat junk food, and watch tv, but movies just aren't their thing.

Enter Indiana Jones. Of course, the commercials are EVERYWHERE and when Harrison (my son, not Ford) saw an ad for the Indiana Wii game, he was sold. And, of course, once he played that game, and was talking about it (endlessly) I started telling him about the movie (of what I could remember, anyway) and he was like: "Cool! Can we rent it?" *g*

I am such a movie buff, this thrilled me to no end. *has visions of actually GOING TO A THEATRE with my children*

Anyhoo, long story even longer, they didn't have the original for rent (all gone) so I bought the trilogy.

HOLY VIOLENCE, BATMAN! It's funny how you don't notice these things until you watch it with a child. Harrison was thrilled to death, of course, and asked 1000 questions, and I found myself stumbling a bit with the answers. I like to be as 'honest' as I can, about sex and death and stuff, but how do you explain Nazi's to a 6 year old, who has absolutely NO references to base this info on?

And the drinking contest bwn Marion and that random guy? Uh ... we don't really drink. We don't NOT drink, but yeah, when you have two kids and your own business to run, hangovers are not really an option, so it's pretty rare that we drink at all, and pretty much NEVAH where we tie on one. How do you describe drunk without making it seem FUN! :D

Tough stuff. No to mention, the second movie (which I had never seen, and now wish I never had) had all this blood sacrifice to the Gods stuff. I just fast forwarded through that part. *eyeroll* I don't need to deal with the resulting nightmares for the next two months.
He also had trouble figuring out who the characters were, from scene to scene. They all looked the same to him. I suppose, that character diversity is really at it's peak in the spongebob episodes!!

Final analysis: The first movie is his favourite (smart kid!), he didn't like the second, and got bored during the third. (although I was enjoying it).

BTW: My Nazi description went as such: A long time ago, there was a group of very bad people who tried to take over the world. There was a big war,(world war 2) because the rest of the world fought back, and we won! But in the meantime, the Nazis did very bad things and killed a lot of people. That flag (the swastica) was their symbol and now, if you ever see that flag anywhere, you should RUN THE OTHER WAY!

Okay, if you've stuck with my ramble thus far, you deserve some art!
Here is a ink wip. Snape is almost done, and now I must do Harry. You can see him outlined in yellow, and I filled a bit of the background in so that you can see where he's going to be.

sheesh! Yeah, explainin Nazis to someone that young.. I could see the difficulty. Hell, I was teaching 8th graders this past winter and had to explain Nazis to them and they STILL didn't get it. I like how you did it, though.

I can't wait for your Snarry to be done! *guh* It looks like it will be absolutely beautiful. you aren't taking commissions yet are you? Cuz I'd certainly pay for something of yours..

No commissions, but I *do* take requests! For that matter, if it's not already claimed, I'd gladly send you some of my art. It's not doing me any good sitting around here!

Whew! Also, I'd like dibs on your current piece of artistic beauty if and when you decide you're gonna give it away.

Lemme know which ones are still available...

Hee! All of the old ones are gone, but 8 and 9 are still available, as is this ink one, but I make no promises on how good it's going to be!

Which one wouldja like? Or do you want to see how the wip pans out?

I'd like 8 over 9, but I do want to see how the wip finishes up since I lurve it to bits already!

Your kid is brilliant. Your description of Nazis is made of win. And your crosshatching IN FUCKING COLOR is bloody gorgeous.

You make me want to try it now. I've never crosshatched in color.

What is it, just pencils? It's totally cool.

(mostly) micron pens. .005 if I can get 'em, but some of them only come in .5

Yellow, orange, pink, brown, dark brown and black. I also have green and blue prisma colour .005's.

I think pencils would get too gummy, because I really layer the crosshatching. I find it really cool to sort of 'build' up the dimensions. I'm sure my 'process' is too long, but it's been a great learning experience.

I find that I can skip a bunch of steps with pencils now, and still get the same results. I'm sure I'll get there with pens eventually too.

That's exactly how I do the scribbling thing. Except I use micropoint Sharpies, but oh man, I'll bet microns are wonderfully smooth to work with. You can really make subtle work of them--and I can see it in your drawing, which is why I first thought pencils.

Go you! So neat.

One of the perks of not having kids, I don't have to sit through shit like Scooby Do.

Date: 2008-06-07 04:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com
No kids yet? or you've chosen to not go there at all?

I highly reccomend them, they are sooo much fun! (and evil and frustrating too, of course).

I actually like Scooby-doo, but I'm more than thrilled that we dodged the Barney-bullet!!!!yay!

I'm also glad I didn't have girls, because I'm pretty sure I couldn't sit through a Barbie! movie or Hanna Montanna without sporking out my eyes!

you can have em. they drive me nucking futs. Actually when i was a girl I didn't like Barbie at all. Primarily because I knew very well that i did not look like her and never would.

Ha! I didn't like kids at all until I had my own. Seriously! I have very little patience with other people's kids.

Okay, the 'A' just broke completely off my laptop!!!!! and I have to fuckin' stick my fuckin' pinkie finger right in the hole to get it to work!! grrrrr

Hey, I used to stick pink push pins into Barbie's boobs so that she'd have nipples! :D

Hm. Either I can't remember that far back (a real possibility) or my kid never asked as many questions as yours. Actually, I'm pretty sure she never asked as many questions. Well, unless we were discussing important things like farting rather than the Nazi quest for world domination. How pedestrian!

Oh, and I think I'm going to love this picture when it's finished. I love art that features kissing. And this "seconds before the kiss" -type art is a special favorite. I don't think too many artists draw it. I know I can't quite mesh the mouths properly. Or the noses. And cartoon kisses really lack the hawt factor that you'd want in a work of art.

She may or may not have asked. Time has a way of blocking out helping us forget the strange annoying things that they do. :D

Kissing scenes? Shit, that's practically all I draw! Oh yeah, blowjobs and anal penetration too. *g*

And photo references dude! I could never get the mouths right either if I wasn't looking at a photo. As joanwilder just called me out (see below) this was a screencap from Ghost! *giggle*

Yeah, you see things in movies you never knew were there when you see them with a kid. Have to have really good 'distilliation' technique. Think of them not wanting to see movies as a reprieve, like how we convinced our kids they'd hate shrimp, mushrooms, and strawberries--it was cheaper! They'll get wise to your mojo soon enough!

OOo, you've not done a Snarry in a while. Can't wait to see it when Snape's not kissing Patrick Swayze.

OMG! You are sooo off the mark! Not even close!

Snape *is* Patrick Swayze, and he's about to kiss Demi Moore

And my kids are odd. Harry loves spinach and grapes, Quincey loves pretty much all vegetables, and they both ask for water when we eat at restaurants.

Don't ask me! *shrug*
