Grrrr! *stomp* *pound* *throws laptop out the window* *stomps moar* *gets laptop and brushes off the snow*

Fuck!

I am finding photoshop SO HARD! *cries*

Don't you hate it when your brain and ambitions FAR outsize your talent? I KNOW I can do this, but yet ... I DON'T KNOW HOW TO!

*breathes*

Why can't I just wake up and be amazing? Seriously, is that too much to ask? ;)

Okay, I've calmed down, I'll go back and try some more.

(BTW, this isn't a plea for people to tell me how amazing I already am, because pffft DUH! *polishes nails* Just tell me to chill, and be patient and EVENTUALLY shit will make sense and my motivation will more closely match my skill-set. Or, my motivation will lower itself and that might solve the problem too. ;)

You already are amazing! I think what's needed here is a Photoshop training montage.

Ooh, like in the movies? Where with two minutes, and a bunch of different shots of me learning, I'm suddenly an expert?

WHERE DO I SIGN UP????

I know a bit about photoshop, but I just can't PAINT in it. It was fine for the Phineas and Ferb stuff, because they are flat drawings. But Megamind is much more 3D.

Thanks though. I may take you up on it!

Sorry about the frustration. It´s part of the learning process, though. You are learning, yes, you are!

Did you notice how annoyingly positive I´m able to be when I´m not the one being frustrated?

Keep trying =) (again annoying, I know...)

Learning Photoshop is SO MUCH trial and error, it's not even funny, omg. There are like 1001 different ways/options to do ONE task, furreal.

I'm by no means an expert, but if you need some questions answered and Google ain't doing it for you, or if you just need to vent about Photoshop being WTF, feel free to email me! <3 <3 <3

Great! Can you fly down here and spend a couple of days teaching me? What? Am I outstepping my bounds here? ;D

Problem is, I don't have specific questions. It's more like ...HOW DO I DO THIS??? GRRRR

If I *do* need something, I'll certainly take you up on that offer. Thanks!

AHAHAH srsly, don't tempt me, I love traveling on a whim, LOLOLOLOL!!

The only advice I can give with Pshop is trial and error, constant, non-stop, frustrating, endless trial and error, which I know you already know. GOOD LUCK, BB. <3333

OH I FUCKING KNOW!!!!!!

that why Ollivander took over a year!

its taken me 2 fucken years and I have barely dented photshop, but bhose 2 years were a rapid ramp up.

I want to wake up amazing and gorgeous and 20 years younger. I always say that to those motivational bozos whoe preach "if u think it you will become it" bullshit. Then they get pissed at me.

Sorry hon, you do amazing art. That snarry series you did...wher they have the liquid eyes and Snape is too handsome for his own good. I have seen that. Doing that in photoshop is NOT EASY. I havent figured out haow to do it, or how to make the pencil tool not pixalate. I havent figured out how to mimic easing the pressure flow off the brush. So much I dont know. so so much. But that's good too, because I always learn something new.

Well I ran into issues where I didn;t know what to do. I have another half art project. If I run into an issue I cant solve I set it down and wait for the skill set to catch up. =)

i am talking about THIS art you did- http://my.deviantart.com/messages/#/d15kvpk

Oh! You said series, and the way you stated it, I thought you meant it WAS digital. I was like ... 0_o??

Yeah, I can draw it in pencil and then MAKE IT SEPIA in photoshop. ;)

Ahaha no! It was probably about a week. I just meant that I get IMPATIENT if it's longer than a day.

Also, I've never done anything digitally that took longer than a few hours. ATTENTION SPAN IS SORELY LACKING.

I've been using PS since its debut, which is longer than I care to admit. the damn program keeps expanding faster than I can learn new things!! I know alot, but the amount I dont know is staggering. I have fun with tutorials from this site:

and will be glad to help anytime. email or skype me at venturous11

I will check out that site, thank you!

I actually found some pretty great ones on youtube. Honestly, I think I learned more about ps in the last day or two than I have my whole life.

I guess my prob is that I'm just not a techy. I know I'll forget half this shit within weeks of not using it.

A pencil? Like riding a bike!

Thanks hon, I'll check it out. And yeah, I really could give a shit about all the details, I just wanna make artz!

I reckon I use less than 1% of Photoshop's functions.

The most useful things I learned early on that I still use all the time once I got a tablet and could actually make anything appear on the screen (obviously, ymmv):

* Colouring under a lineart layer set to "multiply"... assuming you're using lineart and it's clean :)

* that "flow" is a more handy thing to mess with than "opacity" if you're colouring

* Custom brushes for the fucking win.

But then, I can't draw on paper. Jury's out over whether I can draw on a computer, too :-P

*wishes you good times with the frustrating beast*

ha! That sounds like every electronic thing i own! :D

My phone is a phone. And maybe a camera, but I couldn't 'triangulate' my position with it, if my life depended on it. :D

Huh. I've been using opacity and ignoring flow. I WILL CHANGE THAT.

Where do you get these 'custom brushes???"

Thanks for the advice!

Date: 2010-11-26 03:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scarletscarlet.livejournal.com
Custom brushes - I make 'em! I would explain how, but I reckon you will have a far better time of it (and probably find a how-to with pics) if you google "making custom brushes in (your version of photoshop)". Iirc, Furiae (er, google again) had a tut on her website.

Also, I've grabbed a couple from Deviant Art, because people sometimes put up files with a whole lot of brushes, textures, whatever that they've made. I have a set of liquid spatters from there, and another one which is pretty baroque curlies that they'd taken from fonts. I think all you need to do to install it is unzip the file (if it's compressed) and chuck it in the brush folder in your photoshop folders. Something like that. It may also be in the furiae tutorial, as she had one of the brushes available for download :).

Yeah - flow makes it behave more, um, softly? Like, if I'm chucking down a base colour, 100% on both is fine, but when I start to colour and shade I like to have the flow down somewhere around 15-35% and maybe drop the opacity down between 40 and 60% depending on how obnoxious it's being. Mess about, really.

Are you me? Because this sounds like my conversation with photoshop. We're still not close, to this day. I only really use it for clean up, though I am looking at learning the textures and filters and stuff :D

Are you trying digital drawing or painting? I find Easy Paint SAI WAAAAAAY more intuitive than Photoshop for tools acting like tools. I can hook you up with a demo if you're interested?

Oh, I always tweak and crop my traditional stuff (and add lettering, 'cause my writing sucks) but yeah drawing with it is a totally different story.

Yes, I'd love to try Paint.

Ah, I see exactly what you mean.

But I'm afraid it's all part of the "artiste maudit" package deal. Look, here's Sempé's take on the opposite feeling. The legend in French goes more or less "Oh, what a beautiful, beautiful picture I'm doing right here!"

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9683/save0030wo9.jpg

Well, at least your rant is proof that you're a genuine artist and he isn't!
