Grrrr! *stomp* *pound* *throws laptop out the window* *stomps moar* *gets laptop and brushes off the snow*

Fuck!

I am finding photoshop SO HARD! *cries*

Don't you hate it when your brain and ambitions FAR outsize your talent? I KNOW I can do this, but yet ... I DON'T KNOW HOW TO!

*breathes*

Why can't I just wake up and be amazing? Seriously, is that too much to ask? ;)

Okay, I've calmed down, I'll go back and try some more.

(BTW, this isn't a plea for people to tell me how amazing I already am, because pffft DUH! *polishes nails* Just tell me to chill, and be patient and EVENTUALLY shit will make sense and my motivation will more closely match my skill-set. Or, my motivation will lower itself and that might solve the problem too. ;)

I reckon I use less than 1% of Photoshop's functions.

The most useful things I learned early on that I still use all the time once I got a tablet and could actually make anything appear on the screen (obviously, ymmv):

* Colouring under a lineart layer set to "multiply"... assuming you're using lineart and it's clean :)

* that "flow" is a more handy thing to mess with than "opacity" if you're colouring

* Custom brushes for the fucking win.

But then, I can't draw on paper. Jury's out over whether I can draw on a computer, too :-P

*wishes you good times with the frustrating beast*

ha! That sounds like every electronic thing i own! :D

My phone is a phone. And maybe a camera, but I couldn't 'triangulate' my position with it, if my life depended on it. :D

Huh. I've been using opacity and ignoring flow. I WILL CHANGE THAT.

Where do you get these 'custom brushes???"

Thanks for the advice!

Custom brushes - I make 'em! I would explain how, but I reckon you will have a far better time of it (and probably find a how-to with pics) if you google "making custom brushes in (your version of photoshop)". Iirc, Furiae (er, google again) had a tut on her website.

Also, I've grabbed a couple from Deviant Art, because people sometimes put up files with a whole lot of brushes, textures, whatever that they've made. I have a set of liquid spatters from there, and another one which is pretty baroque curlies that they'd taken from fonts. I think all you need to do to install it is unzip the file (if it's compressed) and chuck it in the brush folder in your photoshop folders. Something like that. It may also be in the furiae tutorial, as she had one of the brushes available for download :).

Yeah - flow makes it behave more, um, softly? Like, if I'm chucking down a base colour, 100% on both is fine, but when I start to colour and shade I like to have the flow down somewhere around 15-35% and maybe drop the opacity down between 40 and 60% depending on how obnoxious it's being. Mess about, really.
