Date: 2011-10-07 12:51 pm (UTC)This is amazing, like seriously, seriously fantastic. Entirely too fantastic. So was the Bernard one.
How long do these take, start to finish? And how do you plan out the placement of the different colors? One of my art classes did something similar to this, once, with different shades of monochrome color...but the nice thing about that was that if we were off a little, we could add another layer. I don't imagine you can do that with beads.
are you being trained by some sort of crazy beading master with a massive beard who lives in a hut at the top of a mountain? *thinks for a moment* ...are....are you sekritly a crazy beading master who lives in a hut at the top of a mountain?

Date: 2011-10-08 02:50 pm (UTC)Your comment made me lol hon!
For Bernard, I took a picture of my art of him and then put a 'mosaic'? filter on it in photoshop, to make it little squares so I could pick the colours more easily. But the beads weren't very uniform and some were clear and some were opaque, and it kind of ruined the way it looks. I mean, I'm happy with it, but I could immediately tell that there were improvements to make.
With this Megz one, I actually broke down and bought a program that makes cross stitch patterns. made things MUCH easier.
then I went out and bought as many blue/teal/purple beads as I could find. the prep time (because the program needs a lot of tweaking to get the shadows and such just right) was probably just over an hour (I"m new to the program, and I'm a bit slow), then it probably took another hour to organize my beads, figuring out from lightest to darkest, and which colours should go where, and for this one, probably three or four hours of actual beading? I dunno. I rarely time myself.
