Okay, finally, the finished pic! I have to take another photo of it, the lighting is sort of crap today. This is one of those pics that looks much better in person. Sometimes, for whatever reason, they look much better on the computer, but not this time. I also included the reference photo that I used. It's much darker than my drawing, but doing lots of darks is not fun, and I'm lazy! :D

I had trouble making his hair look like the photo. It sort of turned out ... nicer and softer looking. Oh well, better than worse and more wiry! Today, I'm going out and buying some House on DVD. I"ve only seen about 4 episodes so far.

OoOoOoo! I Love it, I especially like the way you made his hand look more slender, and the shading on his jacket shoulder.

Thanks! Actually, the hand thing wasn't intentional. I actually thought they looked kind of fat while I was drawing them, but they really did turn out quite slender. *drools*

I'm glad you like the way it turned out.

Oh. My god.

I mean, I know we've seen this thing come to life, but now it's done and... just amazing. It's so awesome! I really love the chin scruff and the eyes are just completely stunning. So gorgeous. I want to say more but I'm really just staring at it like GAH. Haha.

Yay, House party! XD

:D Thanks! He has a great face to sit on draw! They eyes, the scruff. the head wrinkles! I still need to work on my textures. I tend to draw everything too smooth. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that, but I don't really know how to do it any other way!

*Gasp*

It's beautiful! The hair, the scruff, the eyes... all gorgeously done. And that hand is a work of art in itself. It's been really interesting to hear you talk about your process and see it from start to finish. I hope you do another one of these sometime (though not too soon, because I know it was stressful).

Oh, you won't regret buying House on DVD. It was the best thing I ever did. I saw the first season via Netflix, but was too impatient to watch the second season that way, so off to Best Buy I went and then watched the entire thing in one weekend. Good things come to those who don't wait, too. :D

Yup! I bought season 2 today. season 1 seems to not be availiable anywhere right now.

I'm glad you liked the WIP diatribe. I really enjoy seeing it when other people do it, and even though it's not a tutorial per se, I know I learn tons just from seeing how other people accomplish things.

Someone (Florence crey??) asked for a nose tutorial, so I might attempt one. It would be fun! :D

Okay, it's 6:00pm...is that too early to put the kids to bed so I can watch my House DVD?? :D

OMGYAY! Love it! I think you did a great job on his hair- it's of the "run your fingers through it" variety now. mmmm! You have really captured his likeness and the atmosphere of this shot very well.

Thanks! Yes, his hair is a bit too ...touchworthy...but really, can anything ever be too touchworthy??

And I really will work on a nose tutorial. :D

Hee, the joy of shadows! I think [livejournal.com profile] undunoops nailed it when she pointed out that one eye had two highlights and the other only had one. that's how it is in the photo ref, but sometimes you can't get too literal with those things. I had always intended to darken the right eye, but it really made a big difference when I did.

I almost regret posting it right beside the photo, because not I'm noticing everything that's wrong with it! grrr I've never really posted side by side before...and now I know why! ;)

Holy heck.

This is absolutely amazing. Tripperfunster, I bow down to your infinite wisdom in pencil artstuffs. This is such an incredible example of your abilities and I'm just in awe.

Aw, thanks! That means a lot, coming from you, because you regularly turn out some beautiful pencil art yourself! (coloured pencils, mind, but honestly, I think they're much harder to work with!)

thanks for such a lovely compliment!

I like the slight differences between your drawing and the photo - it makes it better than the source - his face slightly longer, his hair slightly curlier, his eyes slightly more googly, his fingers thinner. It's as if you've made it more Hugh Laurie than he is himself, you know? Which is the purpose of art.

Excellent job.

Hee! What a neat compliment! Now I need to draw myself! Slightly thinner, a little taller, longer hair, bigger boobs, a couple years younger! ;^)

I guess it turned out that way because that's the way I see him. Well, not the hair, but I just couldn't figure out how to draw it the way it was.

I must also see people with big heads and small bodies, because I tend to ALWAYS draw people that way. *scratches own big head*

Thanks! I had quite a panic attack about it. I'd never really drawn facial hair before (other than nice, flowy Dumbledore beards) so I was worried it would just look scribbly. I'm so glad you think it turned out right!

Omg it is perfection!!! I love everything about it - the way his face is a little longer, his hand is thinner, his eyes are bigger, his hair is longer and silkier, and his stubble! :O Unbelievable. 8D

Thanks! You know, someone else said the same thing (all the little changes I made) and it really surprised me, because NONE of those things were intentional. (well, the hair, I guess, because I have NO idea how to draw it realistically.)

And even when these things are pointed out to me, I stare, and say, uh...okay, yeah, I GUESS his hand is thinner! I suppose I'm drawing things how I *percieve* them to be. Funny eh? I mean, I know it's not exactly like the photograph, but my brain is having trouble seeing the differences.

Hey, that's really good! o i love his fingers, idk why but i completely do.

Enjoy the House ;D

Thanks! Yes, the fingers are neat, mostly, because there's not a lot of detail on them, really, but they look sort of real anyway! hands can be such a bitch to draw sometimes, but these ones didn't fight me this time.

Thanks for the feedback!

That is amazing. The level of detail is something I wish I could reach! Love his hair, btw. I know it's not scruffy enough but hey, what the hell, artistic license!

Ha! I love your icon, too funny!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, the hair...I'm actually having an art lesson next week (with a local artist who's quite amazing) so I'll ask him how the heck you're supposed to draw hair like that.
