Seriously. Record breaking cold temperatures for ALMOST SIX WEEKS NOW. And that's for Manitoba, which is really saying something. It has been between -25 and -39 (Celsius) for a month and a half* already. And that's before you add in the windchill.

*Except for … 2 days?

I give up. I am going to move somewhere warmer. Not Florida warmer, but Ontario or BC warmer. My poor horses have GIANT BALLS OF ICE stuck to their faces and eyelashes. All of my chickens have lost their combs (and some toes) to frostbite.

I can't do this anymore.

That is some serious cold. Poor chickens! And poor you. :(

Poor everyone. It is beyond me why anyone would have SETTLED here! This was in the days of tents and sod homes. They must have been very drunk. Just saying.

Ugh. I hear you and we're having normal weather.

Don't your animals know enough to come in out of the cold?

They are in! Well, most of them. The horses can go in or out, and the cold doesn't seem to bother them too much, but I cannot fathom having icicles on my eyelashes!

Me neither. Must not bother them. Maybe they just brush up against each other to knock them off. Brrr.

Holy Shit. I will never complain (until next time 'cause I whine) about how cold it is outside here. That is brutal.

I know in fast food restaurants they have infrared light bulbs to keep the, interestingly enough, fried chicken warm. Can chickens see infrared?

We have four coops and all of them have heat lamps and heated water dishes. It's still fuckin' cold.

Word that rhymes with duck. That IS COLD if heat lamps and heated water dishes aren't doing enough.

I am trying out your baked cabbage recipe as we speak. So far, not so great. It was soooo hard to cut! Nearly impossible! And now, after only 30 minutes, the edges are starting to burn. I put them up higher and turned down the heat, so we'll see.

I did pull off a burnt leaf, and it tasted pretty good! :D

Didn't the instructions say to use the small chainsaw to cut the cabbage? Okay electric bread knife.

I haven't tried the recipe. Did touch a cabbage last time I was in the store but people were hurrying me along. *sighs*

Did try the savory zucchini loaf. It may have been that the flour was old. Still it had a eat more quality to it, even my daughter who is on a must lose weight and eat healthy thought that, but I was the only one eating it. It went the way of uneaten food past its eat by date.

Am hoping that the lower temperature works for this. Let me know and isn't wonderful how nice baking is during the winter.

Well, it was partly burned and partly undercooked, but the parts that were just right were pretty damn yummy. I'm almost thinking of putting an inch of water in the tray, and letting it simmer, then when the water evaporates, slather them with olive oil and have at it.

What about MY suffering????? :D

Yeah, I feel bad for them every winter, but we've not had anyone die yet. Kind of surprising considering how damn cold it's been.

Awww, poor people and animals :( That sounds really awful. I don't know how the early people who settled there first did it. It's amazing how they managed to get by (or those who survived, that is).

I know that feeling, I live in Minnesota and it has been Freya's tit-freezingly cold here. I walked outside to plug my car in because I need to run errands in the morning and damn near turned around and said fuck it, I don't have to leave the house tomorrow, right? lol.

So ... have you seen NASA's Mars Curiosity rover? I hear it's colder in MB than it is on Mars!

Come to ON! Pretty please.
