Do your dishes match?
Or your couches? Or all your pillows and sheets, for that matter?
I inherited a set of 'everydayware' from my mother when she bought herself a new one. I quite like them, mostly because I moved a lot as a child/teen and even though my surroundings changed, these dishes are something I remember as a steady thing I saw every day. They're Royal Daulton (sp?), but not fancy. Over the years, we've lost some bowls and the odd mug, due to clumsyness and mis-use, and I'm not sure if I should go on ebay to find another set to suppliment these, or just ... deal.
As for the rest of mylife dishes, we have a large mish-mash of mugs, some souveniers, some xmas presents, etc. We have a wide array of glasses, same deal and our cutlery drawer is overflowing with a hundered different sets too.
Sometimes I think I'd love my house to look like it belongs in a magazine, (not White Trash Weekly) but sometimes ... I dunno. The REST of my life isn't that organized, it would be a bit of a sham to have my house so detailed. :D
How about you? Is your bed all one colour? Or do you have a mix of different blankets and sheets like me?

Date: 2012-04-17 04:21 pm (UTC)This is a really interesting question. Personally, I don't have matching mugs, because I love that all of mine have come from certain places or were gifted from family members. Or I just bought because I liked them. One is the same cup my Nana uses (she has a huge set), and it reminds me of drinking tea with her at the cottage every time I use it. My dishes are loaners from my stepmum, and don't have any attachments.
My flatware, however. I have no idea why, but I searched high and low to find the same flatware that I had whilst living abroad. Maybe because they were happy times? Or I just liked that they weren't shiny? No clue, but I wasn't happy until I found a set that was close enough. This still isn't quite the same, and I think it bothers me sometimes.
And I have my Nana's aluminium fluted pie pan which you can't buy anymore! Damn new silicon pie thingies that spill the pie everywhere when you try to take it out the oven.
Who wants to live in a magazine? The people who can throw together mismatches to make them look great win the prize in my book. Anyone can buy a showroom.
