Do your dishes match?
Or your couches? Or all your pillows and sheets, for that matter?

I inherited a set of 'everydayware' from my mother when she bought herself a new one. I quite like them, mostly because I moved a lot as a child/teen and even though my surroundings changed, these dishes are something I remember as a steady thing I saw every day. They're Royal Daulton (sp?), but not fancy. Over the years, we've lost some bowls and the odd mug, due to clumsyness and mis-use, and I'm not sure if I should go on ebay to find another set to suppliment these, or just ... deal.

As for the rest of my life dishes, we have a large mish-mash of mugs, some souveniers, some xmas presents, etc. We have a wide array of glasses, same deal and our cutlery drawer is overflowing with a hundered different sets too.

Sometimes I think I'd love my house to look like it belongs in a magazine, (not White Trash Weekly) but sometimes ... I dunno. The REST of my life isn't that organized, it would be a bit of a sham to have my house so detailed. :D

How about you? Is your bed all one colour? Or do you have a mix of different blankets and sheets like me?

Hybrid of the two, really; I have a set of 'best' plates etc. for big family occasions, and they all match, but I have other more random stuff for everyday use. I also have, packed away safely in the loft, my mother's 'wedding china', which is very delicate and which I can't imagine ever using for fear of breaking it.

Cutlery-wise, until very recently we had a lot of inherited junk and not enough of anything to go round, but I found some nice stuff very cheap in a sale and bought enough for eight people (the most our table will seat) so that we can actually put on a show if we have to.

As far as bedding's concerned, none of it's in actual sets but I buy a limited range of colours (mostly blue and white) so that we can mix and match without it clashing too much. Not that any of it ever gets seen, because I have large hand-crocheted blankets over the top of everything.

I got rid of most of my glasses - inherited from various relatives - because we simply don't do a lot of drinking, alas, and they were taking up too much space. However I do have a nice set of heavy goblets which usually only put in an appearance at Christmas. I also made a big effort a couple of years ago and replaced all my saucepans one by one; we'd bought a new cooker (stove) and needed a different type, but the ones we had were in such poor condition I doubt they'd have lasted very much longer anyway.

In short, I'm at the stage where I'm replacing all the odds and sods we've lived with for years with stuff that actually matches which, as one of your commenters so rightly said, means that I'm old!

I turned down my mom's good china, as I know I will NEVER use it. Ever.

I did score some really beautiful delicate glasses for ...wine?

I will probably never use them either, as I only drink wine once per year, and already have a set of glasses for that. *shrug*
